Details:
At six years of age, he started playing the drums in the Pisek Music School Orchestra and played with them for nine years. At age 15, he was accepted at the Prague Conservatorium where he studied drums and piano for 4 years. At age 18, he started playing drums with the Pisek Symphony Orchestra and played with them for about six years. During this time, he also played drums for the Prague Theater Orchestra.

He played with many local bands, did theater and plays in Prague prior to moving to the United States. He also performed on the OK Band’s last LP.

For 4 years, Ciba performed with the Czech band ‘Vata’ in area clubs, most notably Janina’s on Milwaukee and Keeler where he met Doris Spain. Their partnership lasted from November of 2002 to January of 2006 and they formed Rhythm on 22nd with Neal Rudnik and Martin Dreilich in 2003. In 2004, Neal left and was replaced by Mark Jourdan and then Martin left and was replaced by Andy Bowers.

While R on 22 was going through several transitions in 2005, Ciba started to drum for ‘Euroband’ (a Czech cover band) and continues to play with them on special occasions. He, also, drummed for ‘CIA’ (Czechs In America) for 2 years leaving them when the first cd project became a priority.

Ciba not only plays drums, piano, guitar and bass, he is a talented and prolific songwriter. With the exception of one song, he wrote all of the music and some of the lyrics for the first cd. His collaborations with his cousin, Alice Vedral Rivera (band lyricist and manager), account for half of the new cd. Ciba has loved the blues from the time, as a four-year old, he first played blues on the piano with his dad. So it is no surprise that the blues influence is noticeable in his original work.

He met George Belle when Jerry Cafourek from Ravenhouse recommended him as a special guest at the ‘Boys Night Out’ gig at Circle Inn in December of 2004 (Doris was out of town). When George heard Ciba’s original songs, he encouraged him to record a cd and offered his expertise to record and to produce it. After laying down the drum tracks for the cd early in 2006, the project stalled for lack of funding. In October of 2006, one of our first fans, stepped in with financing and made this first cd a reality.

In addition to the cd, Ciba’s other recent projects include drumming with Ravenhouse as a special guest and taking on the lead role in the Czech musical ‘The Pied Piper’.
