It is no wonder Emily Kurn is turning heads wherever she goes. With a bachelor''s degree in Theater Arts and 20 years of performance experience ranging from classical ballet and voice, to piano and musical theater, Emily Kurn is undeniably at home onstage.

A songwriter and wordsmith since she was very small, Emily began a solo music career in 1997 when she was a student at UC Santa Cruz. She recorded her debut self-titled record shortly thereafter, and went on to record two more albums in the next three years. She transferred from UC Santa Cruz to Brandeis University (Boston, MA) in 2000, where she performed in the Club Passim New Faces Showcase. In 2003, she released "Whitebird" which has been praised by publications including SingOut! Magazine and Performer Magazine. Four of it''s tracks were nominated for Just Plain Folks Awards, and one track received a Best Song Award from the Northern California Songwriter''s Association.

When Emily is not hiding out in the Chugach Mountains of Southcentral Alaska, which is becoming rarer and rarer these days, she can be seen in venues from California to New York. Her newest release "Things Change," recorded at the Signature Sounds Studio with co-producer and engineer Mark Thayer, features a talented ensemble including Duke Levine on guitar, Lorne Entress on drums, and Richard Gates on bass.

As a finalist in this year''s Kerrville New Folk Contest and a 2nd place win in the Woody Guthrie Songwriting Contest, Emily won''t be a stranger for long. But if you come across her out on the road, be wary of any casual invitations for a Scrabble game. She always wins.
