Details:
With a last name like O''Shaughnessy, it''s no wonder that this songwriter was looking for a different stage name to go by. After all, how many people are going to be able to remember how to spell a name like that? So with Sifting Peter, this songwriter has found some common ground in the Bible. Starting at a young age, songwriting has been the passion of this man who has always found words flowing easily onto the page. "Many times the words are crumpled in a ball and thrown out, but that''s all part of the creative process," he says with a laugh. He''s at ease with himself and with life. The journey that has taken him this far has been very good to him. He doesn''t have the commercial success that he dreams of, but he''s convinced that the cream always rises to the top and someday things will break wide open with his songs. It''s a hard business to get into. There''s so few people who are really making the decisions in this industry. Until now! With the internet, word of mouth can travel the world in mere moments. It''s his hope that friends will tell friends who will tell friends about the music of Sifting Peter. And if not, he''s fine with that. He enjoys the craft. The finished work on the page. No one can take that away. But on he presses. He started playing guitar at 16. Years after he had already began writing lyrics. Then came the piano to add a different dimension to his writing. Now he''s ready to release his first CD single, "Island Fever". For years, people have listened to his music with great pleasure. Now more people will be able experience his music. Influenced by many artists before him, he still has his own style. Give a listen and enjoy. Then tell your friends about Sifting Peter.

Mark O''Shaughnessy: The Man Behind Sifting Peter:
A friend asked me once who I thought I resembled the most out of Jesus’ 12 disciples. I told him, “John the Beloved.” John was gentle. He sat close to Jesus on the night that Jesus was to be betrayed by Judas. John was also at the foot of the cross when Jesus was crucified. Who wouldn’t want to be like John?
However if I was asked the same question today, I would now say Simon Peter. Peter was short-tempered, brash, impetuous and always putting his foot in his mouth. I’ve come to recognize more of Peter in me than John.
In Luke 22:31-32, Jesus says to Peter, “Satan has asked to have all of you, to sift you like wheat. But I have pleaded in prayer for you that your faith should not fail.” I am grateful that the Lord Jesus is praying for me (Romans 8:27) and has not given up on an unworthy servant. He truly deserves all the praise, glory, and honor.

From Mark''s Point of View:
God is the most creative being we will ever know. That statement makes sense since He is the creator of all things (if you believe). In my small creative self, I want to make sure that I use all of the creative gift that God has given me.
When I write songs, I write from the heart. Sometimes the songs come out as a worship song. Sometimes they come out as an uplifting contemporary Christian song. And sometimes they come out as what would be considered as a secular song.
I believe even the secular songs are sacred. They are about real life on this side of heaven. These songs can still touch the heart and the creativity used in writing these songs still comes from God.
