About the Artist
Bio
In the early days of the Art Rock movement in Europe , Jeff Cannata formed the progressive rock band Jasper Wrath, along with Michael Soldan, Robert Gianotti and Phil Stone . Signed to MGM Records, their first LP, recorded at Phil Ramone''s Studio (A&R) New York received rave reviews. After extensive auditions, looking for the right " voice ", James Christian (House Of Lords) is added to the lineup, along with keyboard prodigy Jeff Batter and guitar virtuoso Scott Zito .
Equipped with full light show and special effects, the art rock band toured the Northeast US, to packed houses until 1976........... Because of commercial and non-commercial musical differences, that year, the group disbands.
1983
The next few years Cannata, begins to explore the essential writing tools of guitar and keyboards. After composing a dozen or so orchestral rock pieces, along with writing partner Michael Soldan, Cannata assumes lead vocal duties and is signed to Portrait / CBS Records.........Arc Angel is born. The LP is a monster hit in Europe.
1988
Soon after being contacted from record executive Yves Dessca at (Carrere / CBS) Paris, Cannata is offered a deal he couldn''t refuse. A recording budget to build a complete 24 Trk. analog studio at home, and to write and produce new material for the next album. A video for the track "Fortune Teller was also shot and directed by Scott Calvert (Pink Floyd) The album was "Images Of Forever".........Rated " top 10 best Melodic Rock album" (Kerrang Magazine 4 star.)
1993
Cannata receives call from label president Mark Ashton, ( Now and Then Records UK ) to record new CD. A slightly less synth rock approach than "Images of Forever . Contracts signed , "Watching The World " is recorded and released worldwide.
1997
After numerous requests from former fans...... " What ever happened to prog rock band Jasper Wrath."........Cannata, prompted by associate John DuBuque, compiles a 26 song double CD of the bands early studio, live and demo recordings. The limited pressings were quickly sold out...........

"Mysterium Magnum" is released
Cannata: Mysterium Magnum Former Jasper Wrath and Arc Angel multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Jeff Cannata returns with his follow-up to 2002''s Tamorok. This latest release, titled Mysterium Magnum, is an enjoyable slice of progressive rock and AOR material, expertly played and written, with plenty of classic 70''s type arrangements but with a modern feel. Jeff plays a good amount of the instruments here, but he does have many guest musicians helping him out throughout the album. If you like your prog rock with hooks, symphonic arrangements, intelligent lyrics, and plenty of gusto, you have come to the right place. Each and every song here is quite a lot of fun, but there are a few standouts. The opener "Spirit of the Four Winds" has a wonderfully catchy melody, as well as an assortment of synth textures from both Cannata and Jay Rowe. On "Somewhere Beyond the Sun", the album''s most progressive piece, images of Jethro Tull, Kansas, Glass Hammer, and yes, Jasper Wrath, all come to mind. Flutes, guitars, and raging keyboards all come together beautifully on this one, and the piece has a plethora or complex passages and flashy solo parts, while Cannata''s vocals soar and convey the thoughtful images. "4:17 (California)" is a catchy little number about the way of live in that great state here in the US, with poignant vocals and lush acoustic guitar & piano. On "King of the Mountain" and "Book of Ages" , you get lots of majestic and symphonic sounds not unlike the band Ten, complete with classy keyboards and punchy guitars. Prog meets electronica on "French", and the soaring "Reason to Live" has beefy lead guitars from Chuck Beckman and plenty of synths & piano from Cannata and Jeff Batter. For some neat Middle Eastern-meets-Jethro Tull-meets-ELP themes, check out the two part "Kali Allah" and "Reprise: Kali Allah" to hear some wonderful synthesizer and flute melodies. With a classy digipack booklet containing great artwork and full-lyrics, this is an all-around solid release from Cannata.
