Unlike a lot of other album descriptions, this one is in first person. There will be no “Who is Darkly Dreaming…Darkly Dreaming is a complex personality as are the small breed of modern day renaissance musical geniuses…” - just me telling you about my CD.
My name is Jeff and you may or may not know me from my band Neurepublik. Darkly Dreaming is my side project of decidedly more synthpop-leaning music. I’ve been around a while and I’ve had a lot of varied influences which I think all helped inspire me to create a new sound for the Darkly Dreaming project. It’s overly more danceable than what I’ve done in the past. If I can be so presumptuous, I can easily see songs from “The Stuff Of Nightmares” coming out of the speakers of your local club – “Forlorn” and “Soulmates” in particular – and I think you may just be enticed to dance along. Lyrically, as with my Neurepublik songs, I explore my favorite themes of loss, depression, and angst – write what you know, eh? I try to give the stories the right balance of personal disclosure and ambiguity so that the listener can empathize and place themselves into the tunes. After hearing “The Stuff Of Nightmares”, I really hope that you will come away with a sense that you’ve experienced more than just a series of catchy tunes.
If you’re into electronic music, you’ll probably like this CD. If you like synthpop with a slightly darker edge, I’m almost positive you’ll like this CD. If you frequent dimly lit clubs where the black-clad children of the new romantics dance to synthesized syncopation until way past last call, you’ll most definitely like this CD!
