GENRE: Synthpop, Europop, Dance, Electronic

INFLUENCES: Erasure mostly, but I will also be influenced by Depeche Mode, Savage Garden, XTC, Duran Duran, and any other form of British Pop.

FAVOURITE MUSIC: Being an artist, I will listen to just about anything, any genre just to get an idea of what others are doing, but I will always go back to my favorite: British Pop.

FAVOURITE TV SHOWS: The Incredible Hulk (Series with Bill Bixby and Lou Furrigno from 1978-1982), Scooby-Doo (any season). Any documentary or educational programme, or family programming.

FAVOURITE AUTHORS/BOOKS: Anything written by Dean Koontz or Stephen King.

FAVOURITE FOODS: I will eat just about anything but I try to stick to something healthy. I mostly eat vegetables and salads. I hardly ever eat sweets or sugar. Some foods that I just cannot stand are mushrooms, black olives and tomatoes.

HOBBIES: Music of course, then there’s math and science, and cooking, but my real passion is horses. In the summer I used to volenteer over 14 hours per day taking care of the horses at a local stable in my area. Another new found hobby of mine is Ham Radio. I hold a Amateur Extra Class licence.

MORE ABOUT ME: I grew up listening to country music and many popular rock bands in the 80s. I always loved music but I didn’t get a start in it until a little over 12 years ago. Back in the early nineties I was introduced to Synthpop and instantly fell in love with it. The first band I heard from that style was Duran Duran, but at the time I didn’t realise what I was listening to. A friend then turned me on to Tears For Fears and Erasure. I’ve been paying attention ever since.

I took some music lessons on piano and theory in elementary and high school but didn’t really pay attention. I remember I barely passed. I paid more attention in computer science, believing that is what I wanted for the rest of my life. I wasn’t much for video gaming so I choose computer programming. I would get up around six in the morning before I had to go to school to program computers. Then when I would get home I would continue to program until nine or ten at night. At that time I had ambitions of starting my own software company.

I have always had s secret dream of playing music that would lie dormant in the back of my mind, but I never really tried it until late in 1994 when I got the opportunity to purchase my first synth. I remember it was a Yamaha SY99. Great keyboard, just one problem… I couldn’t play it.

I wanted so badly to be able to sit down and play what I heard; both on the radio and in my head. I found a private instructor and started studying, but the success as they say, did not come overnight. I worked hard for the next three years attempting to teach myself the theory behind the music. Only the rigours of constant practice and rote memorisation could lead me down the path that I had choose.

“If you give up, then you are guaranteed to fail”. So I didn’t. I kept working at it a little at a time. I bought book after book, video after video, synth after synth until I found the formula that worked for me. I wrote my first “album” in 1997, just something I put together to prove to myself that I could do it. Then things got more serious.

I find the act of songwriting very difficult. Coming up with ideas and putting them together musically and lyrically is the pits. It takes me a very long time to get an idea out of my head and down in a sequencer; so I didn’t start another album project until 2004. This was the so called first album to carry the Desert Dogs name.

This album called “Old Dog New Tricks” was never officially released to the public for sale. Even though some people who listened to it liked it, to me it wasn’t good enough. I decided to chalk that one up to experimentation and start again. This time with an official debut album titled “Dalmatian”.

With Dalmatian I really poured my heart and soul into this one instead of just singing lyrics and pounding keys. I really tried hard to stick to a central theme of the album and write what was dear to my heart. I finally found an outlet for what I care about the most. Music and songwriting is my therapy, my escape. Whenever something gets me down or is something that I really care about, I will write about it. I need to tell the world that I have something to say, and I am pulling no punches.

Hopefully music will be part of my life for a long time to come. In some way or another I will always find a way to do what I love. I continue to walk this path that I have chosen with my head held high and my eyes looking forward. I shall never look back for I have no regrets. I will keep pushing on, one step at a time, putting one foot in front of the other.
