Details:
Rick Huckaby was born on April 15, 1975 in Baton Rouge, LA. At a young age Rick began honing his musical skills as a drummer building his first drum set out of pots and pans using wooden spoons as sticks. At the age of 7, the Huckaby family moved from Baton Rouge to Huntington, WV. It was here where Rick continued to play drums, eventually forming his first band when he was in the 8th grade. His role in the band was behind the kit as a pocket-driving drummer. However, when the lead singer quit before a talent show, Rick took over vocals and for the first time his voice was heard by an audience. He has never looked back.

He then went on to pick up a guitar and with countless hours of obsessive practice, realized his love for the instrument and let his natural ability shine. He began in college fronting a local country band, becoming one of the best live acts in the tri-state area. In 1996, Rick loaded up his guitar and made the official move to Nashville, TN, leaving behind the comfort zone of small-town life. After laying asphalt for 2 years and singing demos in his free time, Rick eventually caught the eye of country legend, Tracy Lawrence. Rick was asked to play acoustic guitar and provide harmony vocals for Tracy’s band in 1998 and remained in that position for 5 years. During this time, Rick co-wrote several songs for Tracy’s albums including “Steps”, “Breaking from the Inside Out”, and “Long Wet Kiss”.

In 2002, Rick was wooed away from being a sideman with a record contract from Warner Brothers – Nashville. Rick went to the studio right away and cut an album consisting of 12 original songs. However, due to the natural slow moving wheels of the music industry, Rick’s album was never released. In 2006, Rick was forced to cut ties with the Major Label and create his own record label to get his music to his fans.

Rick has always enjoyed performing live, with his guitar as his only band mate. He is a musician’s musician, bringing together influences as diverse as Marvin Gaye to Keith Whitley. His songs mix the essential elements of rock and blues, with the vocal soul of country. This is not your Grand Pa’s country. Rick has never been one to rest on his past success. He thrives on the immediate interaction with his live audience and has built his reputation on making an unspoken musical connection, one song at a time.
