What the world needs are simple things(as children see the world), love for all, less ego- and ethno-centricity, and acceptance of self and others as natural beings with imperfections. "Not by War but by Humility" is a collection of my lyrical and musical expressions done as a humble attempt to add a cool oasis in a world of confused, conflicting social, political, and religious jumble. Many children, natural, and simple things have inspired these songs, but I would not classify this as a children''s album, though children have found favorites among the songs. I have intuitively and consciously incorporated many genres into my musical development over the years, adding my own style as well, which sometimes I know not how to describe. The great reward music has for me is the freedom to express and create, to be different, to contemplate, to question the status quo, to enjoy the rhythms, the simple string and vocal sounds, and the musical connections, and to develop those musical phrases toward somewhere never anticipated. Sometimes there is a goal, and sometimes not. Thus playing, creating, writing, and sharing the results leads to my personal therapy, joy, and entertainment, and hopefully yours as well(so you buy my music!). My music comes not from degrees or formal training, but from desire, conviction, emotion, love of all and simple things, and from ongoing child-borne curiousity and freedom to express my response to the world. The great thing about this solo art of music, or any true artistic expression is that no one can say how it should or must be done. And thus I remain solo up to now. I am known for shaking up the dust, so the next CD may be a solo instrumental effort as I am now so inclined to do; however, I just finished a vocal/instrumental song about my Katrina rebuilding trip to New Orleans which is becoming a regular favorite of mine. So don''t sit too comfortably on your laurels thinking you know what to expect on the next CD.
