"Without a doubt, the next level is within sight for this deliciously funky quartet. Frognot continues to leap toward the top. It is a safe bet that, very soon, nobody will be able to stop Frognot from playing any show they want." - RJ Johnson, https://www.tradebit.com

After forming in October of 1996, Frognot hit the ground running-and they haven''t stopped since. A Dallas-based alternative groove rock band, Frognot is a unique blend of diverse and skilled musicians. Front man Dennis Leonard has been a part of the music scene since 1990, rounding out his striking vocal talents with some groovish guitar work, rhythmic pounding congas, and a hauntingly soulful violin. Guitarist Mike Harris contributes to the band''s unmatchable sound with his smooth style of hard-driving, energetic guitar riffs. Mike has been playing the Dallas club circuit off and on for ten plus years for such bands as Sneaker Geek and Petroleum Reptile. Brian Starustka helps turn up the funk with his bass licks, bringing with him a variety of band experiences beginning in 1986 that include performing, touring, and recording for such labels as Atlantic, Exodus, Shrapnel, Audible Nutrition, and later Elektra. Drummer April Samuels, performing since 1989, finishes out the band''s lineup, providing the group with a powerful beat and harmonizing backup vocals.

Not only do all of the band members work together onstage to weave their voices and music into a well-meshed final product, they collaborate off-stage as well. Although Leonard and Samuels split the lyric-writing credits, every member of Frognot helps contribute to the creative process that builds their songs. It''s a group effort, and the results can be seen and heard on-stage as the entire band melds into an enjoyable combination of funk and groove.

As soon as Frognot began performing in 1996, rave reviews began to spread across town, such as the following by Kendal K. DeHart of Harder Beat Magazine''s Live Reviews (Dallas, TX), "...Frognot provided some exceptional rock. The band''s first song, ''What I Want'', showcasing their lead and backing vocals, was a real crowd pleaser... Frognot is a great rock band, and we look forward to hearing more from them." Providing a live performance virtually untouched by any band in any genre, Frognot has an infectious sound and vibe that really gets their crowd into the show. According to one fan, "This band has really got their act together. Frognot has a presence on stage that simply must be seen. Frognot has a very energetic show, with talent that is ''well tuned''." Shortly after unleashing themselves on the Dallas music scene, Frognot earned a solid and loyal fan base. Constantly crafting and performing new material, Frognot is able to keep their show fresh and new for long-time fans as well as draw in new followers. A familiar group at such Deep Ellum clubs as Club Clearview, The Galaxy Club, Trees, and Club Dada (venues which have hosted nationally headlining acts such as Alanis Morisette, Live, The Presidents of the United States of America, The Toadies, Sister7, and many more), Frognot has established itself as a popular local institution. Additionally, Frognot has opened for such national touring artists as Phish, Bow Wow Wow, and Anggun. As Lisa Rollins of Buddy Magazine''s Spotlight on Performers (Dallas, TX) says, "...already the four-piece lineup has managed to create a well-rounded niche for its groove-infested sound."

Not content to merely be in-demand among the local circuit and playing about 50 dates a year, Frognot recorded and released their 1998 debut CD, Welcome to Frognot (1OO Proof Entertainment Records), an 11-track powerhouse showcasing the band''s talents. The CD was recorded at Planet Dallas Studios (whose recording credits include such bands as Tripping Daisy, Reverend Horton Heat, MC 900 Ft. Jesus, The Toadies, and The Nixons) with Rick Rooney engineering and co-producing. Welcome to Frognot can be found at Bills Records and Tapes, Blockbuster Music, CD Warehouse, and Tower Records as well as online through https://www.tradebit.com, https://www.tradebit.com, https://www.tradebit.com, https://www.tradebit.com, https://www.tradebit.com, https://www.tradebit.com, https://www.tradebit.com, The Orchard, CD Baby, https://www.tradebit.com, and Y2K-music.

Prior to the CD release, Zine of the Times (Hartland, WI) received a two-song Frognot sampler and had this to say, "I plugged this into the tape player and went WOW! This is some good music and the first song reminds me of Stevie Wonder with the feel and sometimes the vocals as well! There is some great musicianship here with some good writing. Excellent vocals! It left me wanting more (which is what it is supposed to do)... This band has nothing but good things to come for them if the rest of the CD is like the sampler I received. I look forward to hearing more of Frognot!" After the CD release, Zine of the Times named Frognot their Featured Artist of the Month and continued the praise, "Frognot is surrounded by many talented musicians... With driving songs and a funk feel, they know which path to take to make it!... With great vocals and great musicians, this is a band that needs to be heard!" The accolades and reviews for the CD kept pouring in, including this one from Matthew McGregor of Harder Beat Magazine, "Welcome to Frognot is ripe with fun and upbeat titles, custom made for a funken-groovin'' party." Pure & Simple Magazine (Bay City, MI) quoted in their review, "Let''s get funky with Frognot! From the opener ''What I Want'', it is apparent that Welcome To Frognot is going to be like none before. Funky bass, groovish guitar licks and pulsating vocals build a backbone that is the foundation of the entire disc. Transcending smoothly from the slower tempo ''Empty'' to the funked out ''Feel It'', Frognot has created a very unique and easily recognizable sound with their funk/pop style and catchy melodies. So those looking for a new, fresh sound, fear not, Frognot is here!" Lick, The Underground Music Journal, concludes with, "Strong, well-written lyrics power this disc to being damned good!"

In addition to the exposure of their live shows (ranging out from the Dallas area into the rest of Texas and Oklahoma) and their debut CD, Frognot has enjoyed plenty of radio and television airtime. Frognot has been featured twice on Fox''s Good Day Dallas show in Dallas, TX, and the video for their song ''What I Want'' has aired extensively on Dallas TCI Cable''s Sarcastic Existence. As for radio airplay, not only have Frognot tunes made headway on seven Dallas, but they can be heard in Amarillo, TX; Austin, TX; Denton, TX; Houston, TX; Waco, TX; Oklahoma City, OK; Denver, CO; Sewanee, TN; Los Angeles, CA; and as far away as Brisbane, Australia. Frognot also performed on return from commercial break live for Dallas station Mix 102.9-and they''ve been asked back five times since. Additionally, Frognot is continually featured as bumper music nationally on WBAP 820 AM''s Mark Davis Show.

Frognot has furthermore been the recipient of multiple awards. The Austin Songwriter''s Group named Frognot a Finalist in the Rock Category of their 1998 Song Competition for the band''s superb "...great tripin''-in-the-strobe light groove" (Matthew McGregor, Harder Beat Magazine) song ''What I Want''. The band was also named the 1998 Entertainment Weekly Battle of the Bands Runner-Up, hosted by AllCampus Media and Hyundai. Frognot also won Shiner Bock''s coveted 1998 Shiner Bock Battle of the Bands in the Dallas Finals, and they were named Zine of the Times 1998 Band of the Year. Continuing their track record of excellence, Frognot was named a Finalist in the 1999 South by Southwest Interactive Festival (SXSW) Website Competition, competing side by side with such international heavyweights as Sony Music''s Celine Dion site and Nettmedia''s David Bowie site (BowieNet). With the support the band has received from its fans, along with their unparalleled musicianship and charismatic performances, Frognot is sure to stir up national attention quickly. As Bret McCabe of The Met''s Soundcheck says, "Frognot''s unabashedly happy alternapop is propelled by a bass/drums interplay that gives the backbone of the music a funky feel. Though vying for the fickle Dallas alternative market, Frognot has managed to secure fans locally and internationally via its concentrated self-promotion in press releases, consistent live shows, and its Web site."
