Details:
The LaPlante Brothers (aka Jeff and Steve LaPlante) have been writing and performing music for the past 15 years. Growing up in Rhode Island, the two started writing for their first band Ultimate White. Jeff was the keyboard player and Steve sang. The band was formed with cousin Mike (drums) and performed at family gatherings like cookouts and birthdays, etc... Ultimate White matured into Mission Control and with the departure of Mike, the LaPlante brothers found a new drummer in Tim Messer as well as a guitar player, Pat Condon. Over the next four years, the four young musicians practiced in the basement and recorded all of their practices on cassette tapes. Jeff started playing guitar as well as his usual keyboards. They even managed to get some paying gigs at school dances and band showcases, etc... In 1994, the band toured extensively for a full year with a popular kids entertainment group, playing several shows every weekend all over Rhode Island and Massachusetts. The band had a falling out with Tim Messer and soon after, recorded a demo tape called Illusions in 1995 with the help of a drum machine filling in for Messer. Soon after, Pat Condon started his own band called Stonehenge. In 1996, Jeff and Steve recorded Mission Control''s second demo tape called Destinations. Both demo tapes are out of print now and Jeff and Steve are the only ones that might have a copy.

In 1997, Jeff and Steve joined up with Ryan and Ken Hynes along with Mike Joubert to form Entropy, an eclectic blend of alternative rock with complex songwriting. Immediately, Entropy saw success around the college scene, winning the Rhode Island College Rock Hunt an impressive 2 years in a row. The band''s intense practice schedule paid off, and Entropy was a popular act in the Rhode Island club scene along with Lucid (McFly), The Comic Book Super Heroes, State Of Corruption, Gruvis Malt, and former band mate Pat Condon''s band, Stonehenge. Over the course of three years, Entropy played dozens of shows all around Rhode Island including Colleges, Clubs, Parties, and Festivals. Entropy''s sound also changed with the time, toward the end getting very heavy and dark. Entropy recorded 2 Demo tapes. The self-titled first tape included the band''s most popular song, Haunting and a remake of the Mission Control song, Kiss The Rain. The second tape was a very ambitious and great effort by the band called SAK with such crowd favorites as Taking Me Down, Water On Fire, Countdown, and Dog-Man Blues amongst others. In early 2000, drummer Mike Joubert moved to California and Jeff and Ryan both graduated college. Entropy was soon no longer.

Out of Entropy emerged The LaPlante Brothers and within 6 months, they released their first CD, Under One Roof. It received rave reviews from fans due to the very popular song, Alive, which was a suprising R+B song. This was the beginning of the brothers experimenting with different music styles. The CD also featured songs like Forever, Need You No More, and Back To Yesterday.

Two years later saw the release of teir 2nd and most popular CD, Amazing Story, largely due to the very popular party sing along, Bar Mexico. In 2002, The LaPlante Brothers were the Assumption College band of the year and played almost all events at the college. The Amazing Story CD got a lot of promotion over the next couple of years and songs like Cosmic Night, Crazy For You, The Wanted Man, and Smile Inside became very popular fan favorites along with their anthem, Bar Mexico.

In 2003, The LaPlante Brothers began an extensive year long tour, playing several shows every weekend. As well as the fan favorite originals, the band also took on a wide variety of cover songs such as Piano Man, Sweet Caroline, Brown Eyed Girl, Easy, and other popular songs to please audience members who didn''t know the original songs. The year was physically and mentally exhausting on the brothers, with each venue requiring 4 hours of music per night. "It got to the point where we had forgotten what a weekend was. I think we both found out that performing is not something we wanted to do forever." The year and tour came to an end and the LaPlante Brothers had a new focus.

Playing music as much as they did that year had its advantages. They both had improved so much at their instruments and they had a much better focus on what kind of music they wanted to write. This is why in 2004, the LaPlante Brothers released their favorite of their CDs, Spinning Around. For the recording of the CD, the brothers joined forces with some other great musicians like Kevin Mania on drums, (abandoning the drum machine style),Mike Benoit on Bass, Kevin Cotellese on piano, and Dan Pedro on saxaphone. Featuring songs like No Money For Urban, The Telling Tale, Move, and All I Can, Jeff and Steve are very proud of the CD. It also marked the partnership with Koffa Music, an indie label out of Virginia. Spinning Around is the perfect blend of rock and pop with jazz and classical elements thrown in for flavor. Fans of The LaPlante Brothers agree that it is by far their best work to date.

After the release of Spinning Around, Jeff moved to Virginia. Steve also began his career as an English teacher. For the past year or so, Jeff and Steve have been working with Koffa Music with the promotion of Spinning Around. In 2005, Steve and Mike Benoit formed a cover band, Astrovan. You can find them on the friends list of this page.

Jeff and Steve have been hard at work on their next CD which is due out in the summer of 2007. It will have 14 tracks and will feature some of their heaviest music to date. Get ready for a wild ride!

UPDATE: Our new CD "Tragic Hero" is now available right here on CD Baby. Hope you enjoy it.
