Details:
Matt Powers is a singer songwriter and seasoned bass player who has an extensive catalogue of recorded material. A pioneer in home recording, Matt self-produced and manufactured many albums that had limited runs to small groups of Greenwich Village socialites and NYU students. His first effort "Brevity Matters" was given away free; each cover was unique and hand drawn, all 110 of them. His crowd grew around his unique self taught solo bass style that bridged the complexities of a jazz tradition and an alternative song forum. He was classically trained briefly at NYU by Martin Wind, an accomplished upright bass player, but abandoned his studies claiming them to be stifling. Matt has recorded nearly 60 hours of original material on varied instruments of all kinds, but he mainly concentrates on bass, guitar, and vocals. He was a regular in NYC at the Continental, CBGB''s, and ACME Underground before those historic clubs closed. Responding to a Village Voice Ad, Matt became the bass player for the Cringe. Matt still plays in the Cringe as the only surviving original member besides John, the lead singer. The band highlights include SNL''s and music industry guru Shawn Pelton on drums and lead guitarist James Rotondi from Mr. Bungle. Matt''s solo career has also been growing steadily. His powerful and dynamic sound spans genres and times creating a unique sound that stands apart yet compliments today''s major artists. In a world of higher register singers Matt''s vocal range reaches the same height but dwells deeper than any recent artist of note. His indie rock take on music after Nirvana and in a world where the Beatles music catalogue is being freed comes as a fresh breath of air. His first album to be released on a music label coins itself an arc over his entire submerged career "Never Ending Aftermath". It ranges from simple acoustic renditions to full band arrangements with layers of vocals and vintage keys and organs. John Deley, Dido''s keyboardist, played on nearly half the record. Jonny Matias, former Crash Moderns'' lead guitarist sat in on drums, lead and rhythm guitar. Major label producer Oliver Straus of Mission Sound Recording in Brooklyn, New York co-produced and played drums, keys, and various percussion instruments on the album. It was recorded and mixed in an impossible ten days.
