The Omega Concern is a progressive and creative power trio hailing from Omaha, Nebraska. Their music has drawn favorable comparisons to the bands Rush, Dream Theater, King''s X, and Fates Warning; while still sounding unique and highly original. Their musical style is best described as progressive hard rock. They have the ability to play both very hard and heavy, as shown by the cuts "Legacy" and "Retribution," and they can also play very subtly and melodically, as shown by the tracks "Bittersweet" and "A Simple Dream." All of the above mentioned songs, and more, are on their excellent debut CD, "Chasing Shadows."
The band was originally formed through the joining together of the individual skills of Steven Warren (guitars, vocals, and keyboards) and Aaron Goldsberry (drums, percussion, and programming) their combined desire was to make "the kind of music that we want to hear on the radio." They wanted to make music that was melodic and structurally challenging while also being accessible to all listeners. After an early attempt with a different bass player, Aaron''s brother, Doug Goldsberry (bass guitar) joined the band to complete the power trio.
Furthermore, the band''s style is revealed through Aaron''s ability to play extremely complex and intricate poly rhythmic patterns which allowed the band to branch out to a level of musicianship that most rock bands cannot attain. In addition, Doug''s ability to write extremely melodic and rhythmically challenging bass parts opened up the songs to a greater melodic structure. And, finally, Steven Warren brings his many years as a guitar instructor to the forefront by adding unusual elements, such as classical finger style playing, jazz harmonic structure, and a truly respectable singing voice.
The songs on the CD "Chasing Shadows" deal with topics such as following your dreams, not selling out, and accepting responsibility. The songs are both challenging and accessible with interesting lyrics and hummable melodies.
