A touch of the Celtic faeri with a dash of soul diva, add a generous sprinkling of passionate yet playful troubadour, and you might come close to describing the unique sound and style of Latiesha – vocalist, lyricist and enchantingly beautiful figurehead of ‘Poetry Lounge’.
Hailing from the city that has, in recent times, bought the world the likes of Eskimo Joe, Little Birdy and The John Butler Trio, Poetry Lounge have been compared stylistically to various international artists such as The Cranberries, Evanescence and Sarah McLachlan, as well as Australia’s own George, in an effort to describe their strongly melodic and emotively based, rock, pop and folk sensibilities.
The band have quickly established a loyal following in their hometown of Perth since their formation in the middle of 2006. This, their debut recording, showcases six songs of rare beauty and energy described by one reviewer as "truly wonderful". Combining elements of rock, pop and folk, Leap from Heights is rich in melodic content and lush instrumentation. Shunning digital instruments in favour of analogue, the band used a variety of instruments including acoustic piano, Rhodes piano, violin, cello and mandolin to create a refreshingly ''real'' sound that is quite removed from the manufactured sound of many current recordings in their genre. Perhaps because of this, a warm sentimentality hangs over this recording and it is felt long after the CD has stopped playing.
