MP3 Silenced By Law - Homeless

Hard rock, metal, experimental rock

6 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Hard Rock, ROCK: Progressive Rock

Details:
Silenced by Law came together in Southern California in the early parts of 2007 when Guitarist Thrasher first gave Vocalist/Bassist a mini-lesson on how to play bass. Some jam sessions then followed until the duo started writing some new material comprised of riffs Thrasher had been playing around with for years but had never found a home for, combined with the thoughts and rants Rich had always wanted to express but never had an outlet for.

The band name was derived from the individual members’ fascination and contempt for censorship of speech that we have all been exposed to over the years, whether it deals with government conspiracy theories domestically to foreign dictators silencing their detractors.

Fast forward six months down the road, and the duo is putting finishes touches on their debut EP, “Homeless,” available for purchase here on CDBaby. As the core songwriting team, Thrasher and Rich both contributed to lyrics and music as time progressed and the debut EP has six tracks showcasing their work ranging from heavy rock to experimental, dark melodies.

During the fall of 2007, Drummer Jersey Joe moved here from his namesake town of New Jersey reinforcing the rhythm section. Thrasher had actually known Jersey Joe from his days back home in New York, and Rich happens to originally be from the East Coast as well, tying out a strong group as they prepare to bring music, noise, stage presence, self-indulgent guitar soloing and more to a town near you.

Silenced by Law’s music has influences varying from Rich’s song-oriented rock sensibilities of every decade past to Thrasher’s love of equal parts modern, industrial guitar mixed with 80’s hard rock excess, to Jersey Joe’s upbringings in everything from double-bass drumming heavy metal to jazz percussion.

Heavy Rock is without a doubt the primary classification of Silenced by Law’s music, and the band has been influenced heavily by everyone from Tool and Marilyn Manson to Guns n’ Roses and Iron Maiden to U2 and the Police.

The debut EP “Homeless” starts off with a simply melodic guitar buildup on “Love Part 1” that crosses into a darker territory as it questions the fabric of this notion’s being. The Second track “Rich Prowl” showcases Rich’s vocal abilities in this fun bluesy rocker describing any given night playing a show and meeting that special woman, or special for the night anyway. “Meaning of Life” showcases the band’s heavier work as the third track where Thrasher lays out a blistering intro and includes the longest guitar solo on the album. Fourth track “de Los Muertos” is simply haunting, showcasing some layered acoustic/electric guitar work with spoken word. On “Space,” the fifth track, the band cross the spectrum into Experimental Rock category with vocals in six languages. The final piece “Hollywood Heartache” takes the listener on a roller coaster like much of the album, going from ideal to reality while examining much about the town and life within that the band has seen here in Los Angeles.
