The fabulous long-player “Laid to Waste” there are songs that sound like slow, smoldering Blasters (the countryish “Border Town” and “Let it Burn”, a tune reminiscent of Texas great LeRoi Brothers) a funky number (“Howl at the Moon”) that features the saxophones of Josh Hoyer and Matt Wallace, chick-a-boom country (“You Better run Boy”) a blues instrumental (“Dig That Shovel”) and a piece of ‘60’s pyschedelia (“Fishman”) that sounds like it was ripped from Roky Erickson’s songbook
The Tijuana Gigolos are always entertaining, often danceable and “Laid to Waste” again demonstrates, fine musicians and songwriters.
