REVIEW
''Building On the Silence'' by Cohen''s Ghost is a fine example of what vocal world music should sound like.

Blending deep percussion based grooves with smooth and seductive vocals, Cohen''s Ghost has not only managed to create a lush, haunting, and seductive soundscape, of smooth vocals and instrumentation, but also managed to drift my mind into a different time of my life.

''Building On the Silence'' contains an excellent mix of sounds and textures ranging from deeply rhythmic percussion, to wispy woodwind sounds, haunting vocal overlays, and a creepy ambient piano. Layered exquisitely, nothing seems out of place. The sounds fit together as if they were genetically created to do so.

While Cohens''s Ghost did a great job with producing the song''s wonderful instrumentation, arrangement, and flow, the real highlight are the vocals. The lead vocalist''s soft and raspy vocals are chilling and surreal, carrying a Bruce Springteenesque quality. They flow along with the smooth and eerie soundscape beautifully.

High marks are also being given for song structure, production, and recording quality. This is a quality production and not something simply thrown together.

Bottom line. "Building On the Silence" is a highly recommend listen.

You have the coolest voice! Kind of like Leonard Cohen meets Tom Waits. "Shoreline" is a really well written and moving song. Love the production on it as well. Interesting story about the fisherman, and has all the drama of a classic folk song. Really just an excellent piece of work.

Wow! I read the story about "Shoreline", with great interest, and you''ve really captured it''s essence amazingly. There''s such a dynamic flow to your music. I could picture waves crashing on the shore, and the boats as they were in 1858. Keep up the good work!

"Shoreline" is an impressive piece! You do the song justice all the way. The music and vocals are great. Your voice has much the same texture as Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits. I love this!!!

"Building on the Silence", is deeply spiritual and unabashedly emotional. I was lost in its depth. I already loved your voice, but had no idea of the range/texture/quality. What an incredible transformation experience. Beautiful atmosphere. Your work is beautiful and thoughtful.

Not withstanding the events surrounding your song "Re-Entry", which I know was meant to commemorate the death of the crew of the Columbia, "Re-Entry" really has an intense Dark Beauty to it that is exceptional. Awesome intro - strange brew all the way thru. masterful work here that reminded me much of Pink Floyd. Powerful lyrics.

Saw you play live at the Blind Pig, and was blown away at the texture of your music, and the power behind the lyrics. I openly wept when I heard "Building on the Silence". You perfmored it solo, on piano. It was amazing. I loved it more, when I got your CD, and heard the African drums and vocals... You put into both word and sound, the emotions one goes through in a divorce. Simply amazing.
