Jake White is a self-taught acoustic guitarist, recording artist and songwriter who’s presence on the Utah musical community is definite, yet continues to expand. He specializes in distinguished acoustic guitar techniques such as slapping, tapping, finger picking and percussionism resulting in a huge live sound. A one-of-a-kind addition to his unique musical repertoire is a self-built double neck guitar known as “the machine.” This fretless bass and six string acoustic guitar is an awesome privilege for any audience to experience due to its original design, innovative construction and enormous sound.

A wide range of clear high and romantic low tones accompany all of Jake’s performances as his vocals express reflective and haunting lyrics and melodies created by this singer/songwriter. Jake is also frequently accompanied by his younger brother, Jason, on keyboard and bass guitars. Other instruments such as the bagpipe, fiddle, steel guitar, drums, harmonica, percussion and various string instruments have accompanied this extraordinary musician. Audiences are charmed as they experience a mixture of instrumental and vocal music in a concert filled with humor, emotion and reminiscence resulting in an atmosphere of comfort and group participation.

The talent and uniqueness of this University of Utah History major draws sizeable audiences of all ages, but tends towards college and university crowds. Gaining recognition and momentum through the restaurant/coffee house scene in 1995, Jake now plays for audiences of 200 to 2,000 depending on venue size. His largest showing came while appearing as the principal performing artist in the Utah State University Moonlight Concert Series where more than 4,000 were entertained by White’s powerful lyrics and sound.

Student and teacher are both titles assigned to this musician as he first studied, then taught, at the National Guitar Summer Workshop in Los Angeles, CA and Nashville, TN. Jake continues to teach private lessons and has studied with international acoustic guitar greats David Wilcox and Martin Simpson.

Guitars have become Jake’s most frequent traveling companions as he has performed in several states, as well as in Canada, a Central American tour from Mexico to El Salvador and in the Middle East in Israel, Egypt and Jordan. Jake has also been seen throughout Utah as the opening act for Peter Breinholt and Greg Simpson.

In addition to playing nearly 200 shows a year with CD sales grossing over $15,000 between his two previous recordings, this ambitious artist’s newest endeavors include two more recording projects: 1) a best-of compilation of tracks from his first two CDS “Memory Lane” and “All Strings Attached” with some added bonus tracks and 2) an all new recording of his latest creative works.

Influenced by acoustic guitar legend Michael Hedges, Jake White aspires to technical mastery and superior sound quality while sharing his beliefs and inspiring others.
