Some music is timeless because it endures beyond fads and fashions and is pleasurable to listen to again and again. The music of this jazzy pop cabaret unit under the direction of singer-songwriter Bob Bailey is that kind of music. – CD liner notes: Nat Hentoff (note: Mr. Hentoff has provided CD liner notes for albums by Bob Dylan and Billie Holiday, among other notable recording artists.)

Bob Bailey’s songs are distinctive and enduring. Performing four hours of original songs to audiences at hipster Bistros, raucous rock clubs, swash private parties, and boho coffee houses, is hardly typical. Yet, Bob Bailey, with his band, the Bohemians, has accomplished this. Similarly, when performing in the recording studio, the Bohemians have received universal praise from jazz critics like Nat Hentoff and rock critics, such as Matt Davis, who calls their debut album “a masterpiece.” Truly, this is music that feels unique, timeless, and transcending.

Much of their appeal is that the music can strike a chord with people of many musical tastes. In trying to describe this musical style, music critics have used a variety of musical genres to describe the music: “jazzy pop cabaret,” “jazz flavored cabaret folk,” “jazzy rock,” “jazz boho pop.” Even a single song brings about these transcending qualities, as GarageBand critics have described their song, St. Elmo as “jazzy-folk Americana,” “blues,” “beatnik,” “boogie-woogie,” and “country,” and identifying similarities from Frank Zappa to Frank Sinatra, with the Doors, Tom Waits, and the Stray Cats in between.

The Bohemians are seeking to bring this record and their music to a broad, international audience. So take a listen. What you’ll be hearing is Bob Bailey’s lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Bill Engel on bass, Lenny Mink on lead guitar, Bill Murphy on keyboards, and Jack Tartar on drums, plus some of St. Louis’ finest musicians to round out this unique and timeless sound. Enjoy!
