MP3 Craig Chin - Home Recording for Fun or Profit

Weird indie pop; songs about inanimate objects, animals, food, robots and other stuff.

15 MP3 Songs
POP: Quirky, FOLK: Folk Pop

"Craig Chin''s is seriously good music that doesn''t take itself too seriously...
...many of these songs draw on country music influences (the beginnings of alt country), classic 50s music, and (constantly evolving) Rock and Roll. Some of Chin''s songs are reminiscent of John Denver brand country, some nod to 60s/70s California pop, and some rock it like T Rex (and some play in the same vein as Guided By Voices, Galaxy 500, and Neutral Milk Hotel). The production value on Craig''s songs is high, but not because of pristine, expensive sounding recordings. Most of the music was recorded by the artist himself in his Brooklyn apartment, his particular sound likely relying on his knowing what he wants and what he''s doing; using the right slap back reverbs, tremolos, fuzzy guitar tones, choruses of backing vocals, etc. That and the songs are damn well written and arranged."

"All [Craig''s songs] share common threads: they’re all short, well written and often drenched in a kind of extreme duality. The sense that everything happy is a little bit sad, everything nice is a little bit naughty, and everything beautiful is ugly too pervades. And therein, dear reader, lies the genius of Craig Chin. Again, the songs are not always what they seem. Craig plays duality with deft dexterity throughout the record. He is a master of coating every piece of candy with a pinch of lemon. Even the subtitle of this record, For Fun or Profit, is whetted with a bittersweet distrust."
