Details:
David Marks began his musical career at the age of 13 in 1962 when, with the Wilson brothers (Brian, Dennis, and Carl) and their cousin Mike Love, he signed a recording contract with Capitol Records. Together they were, of course, the Beach Boys, and with those five signatures an American institution was born.

After two years and four albums, having played on some of the Beach Boys’ biggest hits (Surfin’ Safari, Surfin’ USA, Surfer Girl, Catch a Wave, Little Deuce Coupe, 409, Shut Down, and In My Room), David quit the band at the height of their success. His time as a Beach Boy was short, but the impact of those early songs on the California sound and mystique is undeniable.

After leaving the Beach Boys David enjoyed success with his own band, Dave and the Marksmen, on both the A&M and Warner Brothers labels, and by the end of the 1960s David had developed a reputation as a top studio guitar player in Los Angeles. He had recording contracts with two of his late ''60s bands, signing with Imperial (The Moon) and Dot (Colours) records.

By the end of the 1970s David was out of the spotlight, but he continued to be an active member of the LA music scene - writing, recording, doing session work, and playing in clubs - and in 1997 Mike Love asked his former band mate to return to the Beach Boys. Though Marks had turned down offers to rejoin in the past, this time he agreed. Two years and a world tour later, however, David experienced complications due to Hepatitis C, and in 1999 was forced to leave the band for a second time.

David has since become an advocate for those who battle the disease, and has traveled to Washington DC to speak with elected officials about the devastating effects of the virus. He has also traveled to London to represent the British National Health Services (NHS) Awareness Campaign. In the past three years Marks has become a radio and TV spokesman in the US, as well as reaching a global audience of nearly 40 million radio listeners, discussing his success with the latest Hep C treatments and encouraging people to get tested.

Since his diagnosis, and continuing beyond his ultimately successful treatment, David has returned to the studio with renewed vitality and recorded a remarkable catalogue of original music including a CD of original material titled I Think About You Often, which includes a collaboration with poet/songwriter Stephen Kalinich who is most known for his collaborations with The Beach Boys, Brian Wilson & Paul McCartney, PF Sloan and many more.

March 2007 marks the release of the long-anticipated David Marks biography, The Lost Beach Boy by Jon Stebbins on Virgin Books. Filled with never-before seen photographs and new information on the genesis of the Beach Boys, The Lost Beach Boy: is set to become one of Rock’s most compelling biographies.
