Irania, from Venezuela, has been working for Public Libraries in North Carolina for the past 10 years, she has translated, adapted and composed several songs and stories based on the responses of the bilingual audience. The passion for teaching a second language to children motivated Irania to start her own company: “Expresiones Teaching Academy”. Expresiones teaches Spanish to pre-school children through music, storytelling, drama and creative play.
Ana Lucía, from Colombia, is a “native” singer. During different stages of her life, singing has always been part of who she is, of her essence. Those who had met her know that she was always into something involving singing, from all kind of musical contests, to being the main voice of the chorus at her college, to singing at her church, to be a Spanish rock singer… But from all her diverse audiences, she discovered that her very best audience was her two little ones, they enjoyed learning Spanish with her songs and games and their laughs and great reception of this “technique”, motivated Ana to look for a way to share this way of learning a second language with other parents and teachers.
Fred, from Venezuela, is another “native” musician. Ever since he was a little boy, he loved music, after dabbing into different types of music, we can say that his musical background is more a melodic one and always open to different type of beats and rhythms. Coming from a multi- cultural family, he eventually developed a love for music and an interest in different cultures. Now as an adult, he loves to see how music is reflected in his sons, they are an extended version of that love for the arts, and both of them have gracefully embraced music as well. Fred had been involved in different types of musical projects in the past and he is always looking for the next “musical adventure”.
Ana and Irania met about three years ago, after several months of defining the “how” and several cups of coffee in a local Charlotte coffee shop, they decided to start working on a very exciting project called: “Criss Cross Mangosauce”. Fred was one of the first friends that Ana met when she moved to the United States, they formed a Spanish rock band in Charlotte and they sang together for about a year. When Irania and Ana were looking for “the musician” of this humble project, nobody else could have been the “music guru” of “Criss Cross Mangosauce” but Fred Figueroa.
Irania, Ana Lucía and Fred had discovered a common passion: To serve children through the arts. All of them are professionals in their field, and most important “parents of bilingual children.”…. And along came “Criss Cross Mangosauce”.
