Details:
File Under K is a two piece rock band from San Francisco, CA that follows philosophies based on years of writing and performing music in various mediums. One philosophy that File Under K supports is that studio albums should be recorded and overdubbed by only a small step above what can be performed live. Their Klepto Records debut album “Where Were We” utilizes this “what you hear is what you get” ideal, which is very different from most rock albums produced today.

File Under K also believes that good music and good songs are just that, good music and good songs. The band tries to not fit into a mold when writing original material and a new song could easily be an aggressive, distorted rant or a soft reflection of life, a long as it is entertaining, relatable, and distinctive. You can see this dynamic by listening to the album tracks “Don’t Care” and “You Used To.”

Besides their philosophies regarding music, File Under K naturally has a sound consisting of guitar power chords and higher-toned melodies from lead singer Kevin Costa along with rhythmic, low end drumming by Kalon Forrest. Lyrical themes range all over the board from the increased importance of education in today’s society to simple love songs and a strong distaste for the cubicle world. A common sentiment from lead singer Kevin Costa is that “your favorite band is the one you’ve never heard.” So, take a listen and hopefully you’ll enjoy the straightforward rock styling of File Under K.
