Details:
Mike Fitzmaurice is a active musician/composer based in Denver Colorado. He is a member of the Irish Folk Group "Colcannon" and has written tunes and songs that appear on their seven CDs as well as two pieces for Colcannon and Symphony Orchestra that have not yet been recorded. Mike has also recorded with "Laughing Hands", "Hamster Theater" "Thinking Plague" pianist "Gary Smart", and many others.
Mike is a multi instrumentalist specializing in String Bass and for this, his first recording as a Composer/Producer, he has assembled a collection of original tunes and some of the finest musicians to be found anywhere.
The CD features Mikes'' beautiful old bass of course but also the wonderful violin playing of Aaron Lande, melodica and drum set of Art Lande (Aaron''s dad and a world class jazz pianist) the soprano sax of Mark Harris, the pedal steal guitar of Glenn Taylor, various flutes of Rod Garnett, Tabla of Ty Burhoe, additional percussion of Ed Contreras and Kathleen McLellan, and various instruments from the arsenal of Brian Mullins, which Brian plays of course. Mike also plays bass harmonica and erhu on the disc.
The CD started out as one thing, but after the first day of recording it took on a life of its own that led Mike in a new and unexpected direction. The result is this recording, a somewhat programmatic sound scape, inspired by the classic 19th century novel "Hajji Baba of Isfahan". Mike likes to think of it as "New music inspired by an old book" and so, it is tittled "The Continuing Adventures of Hajji Baba".
