Common clicking noise on various Mercedes W203 footwell/dash
Common Ticking/clicking sound within the dashboard or footwell of Mercedes W203 and 463 chassis cars. It is caused by a broken ac footwell damper linkage to the Flap Actuators (Stepper Motors) underneath the dashboard or footwell/glove box. In some cases the stepper motor may be faulty also. In most cases it is just the linkage to the stepper motors. This e-book gives detailed DIY instructions and colour pictures on how to repair the problem.
Symptoms of this annoying problem are:
a clicking/ticking sound within the dash board usually under glove-box or drivers wheel
clicking/ticking sound can be constant but usually lasts for 20 seconds and will click without even starting the car, just the ignition key in position 1 or 2 is enough.
No air circulation to feet is the most common but no air to windscreen or week air circulation to windscreen or front air vents. In some cases no air circulation altogether.
Condensation on windscreen, drivers window and passenger window.
The stepper motors control the flaps under the dashboard that direct the air circulation/heater air and air conditioning. The linkage arms that connect to the stepper motors and air flaps can eventually break under the constant stress and temperature changes.
