Details:
"SUMMERTIME" single re released on indie Heatshield Records. Full length solo C.D. "WHAT IT IS" due in February 2004.

Vocalist, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Danny McGuinness (whose friends call "Daddymac") is back in the studio working on his first complete solo release. The young veteran takes a production approach that recalls the dynamics of rock forbears such as U2, INXS and Simple Minds, with a lyrical sensibility that is mythic as well as emotionally engaging and cathartic.

McGuinness has been pursuing his pop-rock muse since the age of seven, when he first began writing songs. At the age of 19, Danny''s first band, Coven of Thieves, packed clubs in the Midwest, and signed with the now-defunct Windy City indie label Critical Mass Records in 1991. Coven was a dark hard rock band at the time that Seattle Grunge was exploding across the US. The band imploded due to what McGuinness calls "a dangerous combination of self loathing, various substances and self-created drama."

On the heels of Coven of Thieves success and untimely demise, Danny moved to Amsterdam for a year. He returned to the US due to a family emergency and ended up starting another band. Founding his second band "ICOS", an arena-rock group that developed a healthy following in a several markets, and eventually received national recognition via signing with Slipdisc, which also brought a distribution deal with Mercury Records.

Although ICOS eventually splintered due to internal pressures with management and their record deal, McGuinness emerged intact from the Mercury/Slipdisc deal, owning his masters and a clean creative slate. He eventually started writing again, licensing the single "Summertime" as music for a national Corona Beer campaign in 2000 & 2001, that took him on an extensive U.S. tour as a solo artist.

Said Danny of the single "Summertime was a departure for me into more mainstream pop sounds. I always found myself writing darker songs, and then once in a while something more positive would come out like Summertime. The song essentially sounds like U2 playing with Jimmy Buffett and James Brown''s rhythm section."

Regarding the re release of the single Danny adds: "I like to think Summertime is a long term song. It seems to resonate with people and for that I''m grateful. As a national radio campaign for Corona Beer in 2000 and 2001, The song has certainly been good to me and gave me the chance to take my time with this upcoming record. Its upbeat, the rhythm section and all the players on that record were incredible. With Clyde Davis on drums (Aretha Franklin, Steve Cole) and Alan Berliant (famed Chicago session musician) on bass we just set up such a cool funky groove. Then there''s Ralph (Beerhorst) on keyboards and you add Gerey Johnson in there on guitar. Gerey is co producing the new record. He''s played with everybody from Janet Jackson to David Sanborn and it was a little intimidating. I hope people still enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed writing and recording it." Recorded at Chicago Trax studios and Casa de Fryer (home of producer Terry Fryer) by engineer Stephen Hart and mixed by Butcher Brother Phil Nicolo at Studio 4 in Philadelphia.
