Details:
I remember sitting in the backseat of my parents'' station wagon and hearing Bruce Springsteen''s
"Born to Run" for the first time. I was just a little boy, but that music stirred something in me. I knew right then that I needed to play music someday."
- D. Tonemah
Tonemah has never let go of that dream. A singer/songwriter in the purist sense, Tonemah combines the energy of rock, the intelligence of folk and the heart of country, to create a musical niche he calls, "Native Americana".
Darryl Tonemah is already one of the fastest rising artists in the Native community as well as with mainstream listeners across the US and Canada. He has performed at the 2002 Winter Olympics, on National Canadian Television, appeared at the grand opening of the Smithsonian Institutes Grand opening of the Museum of the American Indian, live radio, as well as shows and festivals from Alabama to Alaska! Tonemah has shared the stage with acts like, Three Dog Night, Hootie & the Blowfish, Foreigner, Johnny Lang, Donna the Buffalo, Rusted Root and many others.
The new cd from Tonemah is his most intimate to date. He has made a career of exploring travels, to governmental relationships, to his family, he is adept at finding the truth in relationships. Tonemah says, "A lot has happened in my life over the past few years, and I have spent a good deal of time praying. When I write songs, I write from where I am and what I am experiencing. This new cd has a lot of songs discussing my relationship with god the creator." Tonemah says, "You have to continuously grow and challenge how you sing, or write. When I was writing this cd, I read an article about a stone sculptor that carved away all parts of the stone that were not what it intended to be. I thought that was so cool. I approached the writing and producing of this music
the same way. Any words or sounds that distracted from the narrative of the songs were cut out. That is how I ended up with an acoustic cd".
