NASH STREET WINS
COLGATE COUNTRY SHOWDOWN STATE FINAL

Nashville, Tennessee (October 11, 2007) – Surpassing the competition at the 26th Annual Colgate Country Showdown Mississippi State Final, Starkville’s Nash Street proved worthy of the state title and $1,000. The Mississippi State Fair in Jackson showcased ten acts who had won a local contest sponsored by radio stations throughout Mississippi, enabling each to perform at the state level competition of America’s largest country music talent search.

Nash Street, representing radio station WOKK of Meridian, Mississippi, recently won the Colgate Country Showdown State Competition at the Mississippi State Fair in Jackson, Mississippi. Nash Street was formed in 1996 as the "Goat Ropers." The original members got started as a band for square dances and civic clubs through a public school string program. In 2001 they changed their name to Nash Street – where they practiced and it seemed to have a more catchy sound. The group now consists of Daniel Hare (bass), Hannah Melby (fiddle), Caroline Melby (mandolin) and Jason Graham (guitar), who are all under the age of 23.

They play their own versions of old time, bluegrass, folk, country and blues at a variety of events ranging from church gatherings and live radio broadcasts to traditional bluegrass festivals, Mississippi State events, concerts and private parties. They have performed on the Mornin'' Show with Kay Bain; the Legends of Bluegrass and Country Music Festival; Mississippi’s Best Grassroots Entertainment, the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View, Arkansas, and in October 2007 at the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Nash Street has had the privilege of opening for many outstanding entertainers such as Rhonda Vincent, The Grascals, Jeff Bates, Little Big Town and for Tim McGraw at “Swampstock” – an annual concert Tim puts on to benefit his hometown of Rayville, Louisiana – in October 2004. Another honor includes the talent award at the Mississippi State Fair where they competed against 160 contestants.

The band recorded their second CD this summer at Ricky Skaggs'' studio in Nashville. The CD features the expertise of their particular instruments, tight harmonies, six original songs written by the band members, a couple of songs by their heroes – Alison Krauss, Dr. Ralph Stanley, & the Eagles – and their own arrangements of several pre-1940’s instrumentals. Their CD which contains a song named “Katrina” is dedicated to the survivors of the hurricane that hit the Gulf Coast two years ago. Nash Street believes their, “stage presence and ability to connect with the audience at such young ages makes them attractive to the music industry.” For more on Nash Street, visit https://www.tradebit.com In the Colgate competition, they displayed their well-rounded talents with two original songs – Carry On and Widow Maker.
