Joining forces once again with legendary downtown icon and music producer Kramer (Galaxie 500, Low, Sonic Youth, Urge Overkill, and founder of Shimmy Disc Records ), "One Two Three Four" is from start to finish, a truly divine and timeless listening experience, presenting Linda Draper''s atmospheric space folk style.
The overall atmosphere of Linda Draper''s latest LP flows with a subtle grace as well as its steady timing and deliberate pace, hence the title, "One Two Three Four." From the outset, the warmth and directness of Linda''s voice draws you in - what makes you stay is the sincerity and integrity of her lyrics - and what keeps you coming back for more is the timeless quality of the music. "One Two Three Four" was recorded in downtown NYC at Tribeca Recording as well as in the more intimate setting at Noise New York. Apart from producing and engineering, Kramer contributes his unique musical style with his own lush and harmonious instrumental arrangements - accentuating the purity and brilliance of Linda Draper''s angelic voice, lyrics, and her accomplished distinct guitar-playing style. Acoustic and bass guitar lines ebb and flow on songs such as the opening track, "Super Zero" with it''s waltz-like tempo and catchy sing-along quality. The album also includes the haunting "Baby Inchworm" where Draper''s choir-like vocals are sprinkled with bits of accordion sounds - truly elegant but chilling. "Needlessly" a sad yet hopeful love song, will inevitably stick in your head, with it''s simple vocal/acoustic guitar arrangement. "Candle Opera", the penultimate number, where gentle drums rolls and church bells provide an irresistible intensity and epic like quality. "Seven Black Crows", has been described as a beautiful song to a dying loved one and a person''s soul journeys to unfathomed places beyond this world. It''s a moving piece with its passion and eloquent grace.
HER STORY:
Life, thus far, for Linda Draper has been a musical exploration that began in the church choir. She later attended the SUNY Purchase Music Conservatory then ventured to eclectic genres, such as the Renaissance Faire. Linda''s music has been embraced by the Antifolk music scene in New York City that spawned notable artists, such as Beck and Michelle Shocked. In a short span of three years, she has recorded and released several outstanding Long players. Her debut album "Ricochet" (2001) was immediately met with critical acclaim worldwide with the track "Airplane." Her 2002 follow-up "Snow white Trash Girl" garnered further critical praise with the melodic "The Priest Who Looked Like Elvis." On the third release, "Patchwork" it was evident that Linda was truly finding her style and voice- from the self penned tracks "Colorblind," "A Little Bit Goes," and the Phil Ochs song "Flower Lady." Linda has also contributed tracks to a couple of exceptional collections: "Poison Ochs: A Tribute To Phil Ochs" (Wood Records, 2002) with an alternate version of "Flower Lady" and a remastered version of "Colorblind" appears on the introspective set "Sunsets And Silhouettes" (Planting Seeds Records, 2004) - which also includes tracks from Mark Gardener (formerly of Oxford, England''s Ride) and Freeheat (Jim Reid and Ben Lurie of The Jesus & Mary Chain).
Linda has performed in legendary New York City venues such as: The Bitter End, CBGB''S Gallery, Galapagos and The Sidewalk Café, among others. Performing at large festivals has also been part Linda''s live agenda. In January of 2004, Linda along with producer Kramer performed in London, England, wowing audiences, playing popular UK venues The Twelve Bar Club and The Spice of Life to name a few. She has played in both the summer and winter Antifolk Festivals as well as the more recent Athens Pop Fest in Athens, Georgia - performing alongside acts as diverse as Boyracer, The Sunshine Fix, and The Minders. The horizon looks bright for Linda Draper. It''s time for the world to discover a unique brand of timeless music. For now, a simple count in of "One Two Three Four " will do...take a listen.
