Details:
“And I saw you on the dock. You were wearing a red bandanna. And you showed me pictures of the moon.”

Captain Automatic are a four piece band from the Silver Lake/Echo Park region of Los Angeles, although Mrs. Benson lives over by the good Ethiopian food.

They sound sort of like Talking Heads, New Pornographers, Pixies and Beat Happening. They look sort of like cock-pop rockagandists of the highest order.

Josh Kamensky (vocals, guitar) first played music with Mrs. Benson (vocals) in college. When they next shared a stage, Josh was a local political muckety-muck. They connected to Professor Michael Pessah (bass), an award-winning cinematographer, at a gig for a political candidate who later lost a dance-off to Pessah’s mother and to Drummer Dan Braun (unclear) through his and Josh''s work secret dayjob dealings.

The EP was produced by Barry Conley (Ozzy, L7 & Josh Homme) and by Dan Long (Ferraby Lionheart, Pela, The National).

It incorporates musical styles from anthemic power pop to sly soul and enigmatic rock fugues.

And yes, Track 5 is about what you think it’s about.

“And I saw you on the dock. You were wearing a red bandanna. And you showed me pictures of the moon.”
