Greetings and Blessings one and all, thanks for your interest in DEEP IN THE HEART OF THE JUNGLE''s new CD''Jungalistic Sessions''. In brief, I am a Producer and Musical Engineer, originally from Trinidad. My music is very much influenced by my Caribbean background that is rich in African and Indian cultural music, as well as British Pop music. With the Brit-Pop influence in Trinidad, massive amounts of music from the UK could be heard all over the island, thus it became the preferred style of music to listen to, especially the style of Rockers, with the deep and heavy bass lines. Big respect to man like Dj/Producer King Earthquake out of Birmingham for keeping Rockers alive! I spent many weekends going to block parties ("Blocos") in Carenage to listen to rich ''Rockers'' music, from which Reggae and Dancehall were derived (Ez Papa Rocky and Dr. Hide who had the best sound systems in the land back in the days). Along with the UK influence, I found that DJs were experimenting with the fusion of Electronica, Rockers, Calypso, Reggae, Jazz, Hip-Hop and R&B rhythms to create the underground style of music known as Jungle. This is how I first developed an interest in Jungle. On my many trips to the UK in the late 90s, I visited several clubs with underground Jungle raves. I was able to get a taste of Jungle, just as the Drum & Bass scene was picking up steam. I have since delved deeper into Drum & Bass, but have always had a sense of nostalgia for the Jungle of the early 90s. As such, my music is a bridge between today’s Drum & Bass, that most people are more familiar with, and Jungle, which is really where Drum & Bass originated from. My Drum & Bass influences are Sly & Robbie, King Tubby, King Jammy, King Earthquake, LTJ Bukem, Fabio, Goldie, Vibez Rcordings /13Music, Reinforced Records, Hospital Records, Soul II Soul, and, most importantly, “The Winston’s”. The Winston’s are a Washington, D.C. based 1960s funk/soul act that created the song “Amen Brother”, out of which a six seconds four bars of the drum break (the root of Drum & Bass) was lifted. We now call these four bars the “Amen Break”. (Thank you all for your creative sessions!) Enjoy!
