"Hayes Greenfield is a bold, audacious, and incisive saxophonist who loves to take risks."
- le Music De La Monde, Paris, France

Jazz saxophonist/composer Hayes Greenfield celebrates the upcoming release of his new studio CD, ''Peace of Mind.

''Peace of Mind'' is a long-awaited recording of Greenfield''s original compositions, ranging from a joyful, jazzy, pyrotechnical stream-of-consciousness homage to the legendary Pharaoh Sanders to the Desmonesque airiness of "Caravan of Dreams" to the happy, child-like simplicity (juxtaposed with elegant piano stylings) of "The Pied Piper." Featured players on ''Peace of Mind'' - Dave Berkman, piano; Cameron Brown, bass; Mark Johnson, drums and special guest vocalist, Joe Lee Wilson.

According to Greenfield, "All of the compositions on this CD basically wrote themselves and were effortless. My tunes are simple, clear, and honest. Perhaps what I contribute most is the total joy that comes from taking risks and putting yourself on the line to make a creative statement that will move people. To hopefully encourage and inspire band members to play to their best, take risks and go for it. Equal to realizing the music, is the vibe or spirit that surrounds the music and which usually is the most elusive and fragile thing to capture on a recording. It has everything to do with the sound, the music, the musicians, and what is happening at that very moment in time. I think that with Dave, Cameron, and Mark, we were able to honestly capture both the spirit and the music, and create something worthy of a listener''s ear."

As an active member of the New York jazz scene since the late ''70s, Hayes Greenfield - as sideman - has built enduring associations with such notable artists as Jaki Byard, Rashied Ali, Paul Bley, Barry Altschul, and Richie Havens. As bandleader since the mid-''80s, Hayes has headlined in such popular New York City clubs as the Blue Note, Birdland, the Knitting Factory, and CBGB''s. European tours have taken him to Vienna, Austria, the Brighton Jazz Festival in the U.K., the Albi, Coutances, Bordeaux, Amiens, Hyeres, and Avignon Jazz Festivals in France, Germany''s Aalen Jazzfest, and the Aarhus Jazz Festival in Denmark. He has recorded a number of critically acclaimed CDs, produced two award-winning short films, and scored more than 60 films and TV specials, including America Rebuilds: a Year at Ground Zero for PBS, Welcome to the Water Planet (now showing at New York''s Guggenheim Museum), Brotherhood of Hate for Showtime, The Paris Review: Early Chapters, Russia Facing the Future for the Carnegie Corporation of New York, and Berlin Metamorphoses (currently making waves at film festivals).
