Hello dudes and dudettes,
My name is Kelly Lammers. (I use Kelson j. Calhoun as my web name for presenting this music. ) I have been playing in bands since 1963, (the Kavaliers and Passing Parade) a three time member of the Surfaris (“Wipeout” – “Surfer Joe”) and am now on my own, recording some new surf tunes. (and a cover here and there)
It should be noted that many other instrumental styles of music where adopted by surf bands in the late 50’s, early 60’s. Basically, any song that could be played by the garage crowd, having the basic combo players in the group. As the songs “tequila”, “quite village”, “guitar boogie shuffle” and many others where not written as “surf” songs, they where easily adapted. Don’t forget, the first surf music groups where simply the kids that gathered at the beach with their guitars, bongos, bamboo flutes, and whatever other travel friendly instruments they could manage. Later, people like dick dale, Paul Johnson, Jim Fuller and others where writing the stuff we now know as surf music. I apologize in advance for not having a band yet, but I’m working on it. Hence, the tunes on my first CD will be performed and produced by little ol’ me. It’s lo-fi for sure, but still a lot of fun. Mostly surf and some island thrown in for good measure. My goal here is simple: to stoke the old school surf music fans, as well as maybe introduce some new folks to a genre they have never heard before. Anyway, that’s about it for now, but i hope to keep new projects coming your way. I will keep you posted, so get stoked dudes and dudettes. Enjoy!
