International Brazilian Concert Pianist, Film Composer, entertainer and professor. Brazilian born with Italian heritage, he has been performing for more than 20 years. Cesena’s performances in Brazil, Croatia, France, Italy, and more recently in USA have showcased Mr. Cesena’s talents and garnered praise from fellow musicians. Aylton Escobar, Brazilian Director and Composer, has called Cesena a “luminous talent, a gift of noble character that appeals to the audience.” Alexander Korsantia, winner of the Rubenstein Competition has said, “His playing is very bright, open-minded and colorful.

Cesena is a very versatile musician, who can be appreciated by his many different performance styles and in many different venues. Classically trained as a concert pianist Cesena is also a pure ‘entertainer’ performing in his own comedically scripted musical shows, musical plays and performing his original compositions.

Marcelo, has captivated audiences in America in his own very particular way, He has found his following and has played to sold out concert halls with an audience as diverse as his performances. They encompass classical music lovers, easy listeners, new age listeners, world music lovers, cultural, religious and spiritual groups. Although always elegant, Marcelo’s performances on harpsichord and piano are most definitely different! Ranging from the traditional to the unconventional. They have been described as going from Baroque to Roque or perhaps from Elton John and “Bach” again! Marcelo gives invigorating and passionate performances, which have even been known to blend his musical talent with a comedic flair providing entertainment like no other making him appealing to a wide variety of music lovers.

The talents of Marcelo Cesena have been recognized in numerous competitive events. His honors include: Winner of the Young Soloists Competition of the Symphonic Orchestra of the State of São Paulo, Brazil; First Place at the 1st Chamber Music Competition of Faculdade Santa Marcelina, Brazil; First Place and Best Bach at the 6th Piano Competition of Aracatuba City, Brazil; and Winner of Firestone Soloist at the Young Soloists Competition of the 10th Music Festival of Londrina, Brazil, where he performed with the Firestone Music Festival Orchestra-Paraná State. Cesena has also performed with the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra and the Orquestra Nova Sinfonieta. These accolades brought about the generous joint Pirelli/Brazilian Ministry of Culture Scholarship for Cesena to attend Arizona State University.

He has attended the following institutions: Conservatorio Musical de Santana (Brazil); Faculdade Santa Marcelina (Brazil) - Degree in Piano Performance; Faculdade Mozarteum (Brazil) - Degree in Music Education; Arizona State University (AZ-USA) - Masters Degree in Piano and Harpsichord performance; Musicians Institute (LA -USA) Pop keyboard; University of California, (LA-USA) - Film Scoring Program.

Three years ago Marcelo’s musical career took yet another direction. So deeply touched was he by an interview with Oprah Winfrey and her young guest Mattie Stepanek, the young poet and peace maker who died recently from a very rare disease that his own life would never be the same. Marcelo purely a performer of other peoples music, that same day started to compose his first composition and since that day has not been able to stop! Initial audience reaction to this debut CD entitled Kaleidoscope, a compilation of purely piano instrumentals, has been very enthusiastic. A second compilation of orchestrated piano instrumentals is in ‘the works’. Cesena’s compositions effortlessly blend his classical background with the easy listening quality of pop by the combination of strong melodies with depth coupled with a sweet simplicity.

Whilst Cesena has achieved academic and competitive recognition both in Brazil and in the U.S. his passion extends further and has often given of his talent for the benefit of others spending three and a half years in Italy participating in a Musical Therapy Program for a Drug Rehabilitation Comunity also participating in benefit performances in Italy raising substantial financial contributions for Brazilian children helping in the building of an orphanage, which is now home to several children.

Marcelo’s musical talents translate his spirit into a living legacy. This legacy lives on in Grace Odyssey, a not for profit organization dedicated to the raising of funds through the performing arts. Taking the form of multi-media productions involving piano, harpsichord, keyboard, double bass, violin, opera singers and percussive dancing, sound and lighting techniques, unusual stage settings with and video and live performance projection enhancement. Performances are classical and yet contemporarily produced and also using the medium of humor giving an unusual slant or interest for today’s audiences, the latest of which, being a joint venture with the Catholic Diocese of Phoenix and hosted by the prestigious Herberger Theatre in Downtown Phoenix. The funds raised help to provide improved daily care for local people living with HIV and AIDS in the Phoenix area.

Currently, Marcelo is attending the Film Scoring Program at UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) and actively composing for film and television.
