Details:
Sounds and images pulsate, vibrate, and undulate throught the mmmind of mmmelt. The sounds reverberate from widely disparate genres, though mmmostly snippets of house, punk, hip hop, ambient, noise, worldbeat, folk, and jazz, with spoken words. Visual feedback layers itself over old movies, skate videos, scientific documentation, computer graphics, and myriad natural and imagined textures. All these jumbled bits are heated until they fuse and become a new temporal mmmass. The approach is not fresh, but it''s always sticky.
Mmmelt is a piece of meat (DNAniel), some fruit (Apples), a Spongefork (soft-synth), miscelaneous software, electronic synthesizers, drum machines, video mixers, dvd and cassette players and whatever cheap or obscure a/v cutlery that finds it''s way into our kitchen; plus a smattering of various special guest chefs.
CD release party for MOMBASA by mmmelt on Saturday, December, 1 from 6
p.m. until midnight at Jackson Pianos, 3138 Cherokee St., St. Louis, USA. The first two hours will be a sociable party. The next four hours will be a meditative chill zone.
Don''t expect new-age white-light bliss. We''ll visit the brightest and the darkest corners of sonic splendour, and a full video explosion of projectile lumens striking like weapons and rendering solid witnesses into gelatinous liquids pools of awe. The performance will feature ambient electronic soundscapes broadcast on a micro-transmitter to a receiver planted inside a full grand piano with video mixed live and projected onto the piano. Tea will be served throughout the performance, and visitors are encouraged to bring a prayer rug, meditation mat, sleeping bag, pillow, or whatever other deep listening enhancing technologies they see fit.
MOMBASA is a mmmelt first, a full-length solo album. It is a theatrical A/V explosion of dark ambience, glistening noise, rolling thunderous basslines, bouncy beats, electronic mandalas, digital noir cinema, and video feeds from the Free City of Mombasa, where cyborgs are not slaves. It features the poetry of Stefene Russell and Brett Lars Underwood on three tracks.
