Spin Zero was originally formed in the late spring of 2003 by Mike Devins and Jason Sheppard. Both heavily influenced by many of the same artists, they clicked musically almost instantly. Concentrating on the raw power that music can create they focused on huge dynamic changes that could hit like a freight train or cushion the weary soul.
Spin Zero’s sound is both at once easy and difficult to describe. It is certainly applicable to the modern rock genre with the likes of Thrice or Year of the Rabbit, but it is certainly a distinct sound and style from other groups. In one piece the group will sweep madly from an ethereal picture painted with thick delays and reverb to a bone jarring chorus designed to make the crowed erupt with the pounding rhythms and then back again. Sheppard’s vocals will line up with that lead guitar riff to pull the audience in with that harmonic hook and then they will blast everyone’s hair back with a massive hit. Sheppard describes it as “Speaking softly to make them lean in…and then punching them in the face.” The band is proud to say that it is continually evolving and a focus on growing. With that sensibility they plan to say that they are better now and into the future.
Spin Zero played along side the likes of LA Guns, George Lynch, Goodbye Tomorrow, Days Away, The Working Title, The Front, Hypnogaja, Boss Martians, and many others.
