Justin Bahniuk and Michael Gates originally met at Graceland University in 1997. They formed various local bands, but eventually moved to different cities. In 2004, they both found themselves in Des Moines, Iowa. Reunited, Trestles was born on October 9th of that year.
Trestles’ music could easily fall into the electronica genre while also wandering into experimental art music. Their music has been compared to Gorillaz, MF Doom, and Chemical Bros.
Bahniuk''s background in classical music and Gates'' in commercial design made computer generated music a medium which both could explore their ideas to a fuller extent.
Justin and Michael share an interest in comedy music, surreal art, the occult, and American subcultures -- elements which generally make their way into their compositions.
In 2005 Trestles relocated to Los Angeles, CA, where they reside today.
