Like a great many improvisational artists, his extensive background in blues, r&b, funk, reggae, and world beat have a profound influence on his sound. Part of the downtown music scene since the 1970''s, his public profile has escalated since joining with Cecil Taylor (Trio, AHA2:3, and ”Orchestra Humane” big band 2004-2006).

One of the bassists playing the New York City experimental out music scene, Balgochian''s avant-garde funk style of bass playing has been a dynamic

driving force in many bands and venues with regular appearances on Manhattan

Neighborhood Network cable access television as well as youtube and aboptv.
Composing and producing music for various projects and multi-media events,

collaborating with film makers, dancers, artists and poets. Currently he perfoms with various ensembles as well as his own group. His group performs improvisations from Albey''s narrative compositions, while his Jellies (improvisational jam sessions) consist of various musicians assembled for a specific sound, texture and emotion.
