Details:
DAN MACKENZIE is an EMMY nominated songwriter who has also won the prestigious ASCAP Sammy Cahn Lyricist Award (other winners include John Mayer, Josh Ritter and Lori McKenna.) He wrote and produced “All I Want for Christmas,” just recorded by Joss Stone (Virgin Records), and soon available on iTunes. He has recently been writing several songs for the upcoming Holly/Bollywood musical film, "Basmati Blues," (other tunes penned by Moby, Brian Wilson and Burt Bacharach) and has had numerous song placements in film and TV. Dan has just completed his own new release, The Universe Is A Great Big Place, (produced by Dan Mackenzie, Chris Keup and Stewart Myers, mixed by Robbie "Achtung Baby" Adams.)

In 2003, as Mackenzie began work on his third album, A Complete Unknown, he was hired to write, produce and perform the theme song for the new Discovery Channel program Monster House, and became the sole songwriter and composer for the show. A new album, Monster House: Dan Mackenzie’s Songs From The House, was released by Discovery/Original Productions in time for the 2004 holidays. In 2004 Dan received an EMMY nomination for the theme song of Monster House. (While Randy Newman won the actual award, Dan received glowing compliments on his spiffy suit from the Queer Eye crew.)

That year, Dan also won the prestigious ASCAP Sammy Cahn Lyricist Award for songwriting, an honor previously bestowed upon John Mayer, Josh Ritter, and Lori McKenna. He performed "Sitting On A Train" at the ASCAP Foundation awards ceremony in NYC, where the legendary songwriter, Jack Lawrence, was given a lifetime achievement award.

Mackenzie''s 2004 release, A Complete Unknown (What Are Records?), received high marks from critics around the country. Two songs, "WWJD" and "Paint The White House Green," drew widespread attention from major political groups as Dan performed at a variety of fundraisers for democratic and green candidates. Dan produced a video to accompany "WWJD" which was quickly chosen by MOVEON. ORG for their Bush In 30 Seconds DVD release (one of 50 videos out of over 1500 applicants.)

Since then, in addition to songwriting and scoring film and TV projects, Dan completed The Eternal Optimist (unreleased) and has since been working on several diverse new recording projects. In addition to The Universe Is A Great Big Place, he also just completed a children''s album, Dan Dan Doodlebug, and an indie rock album, The Honeybee Apocalypse. Dan is also putting together a new band ...AND bodysurfing whenever possible. He lives in Santa Monica, CA.
