Demetri and his brothers constantly went back and forth to Lesvos Greece where they learned about there family and culture.

Demetri was a good student and by some is considered a genius. He succeeded in the sciences and liberal arts as a child. At age five Demetri exhibited an interest in the arts specifically music. As a young child Demetri was inspired by artists such as Dizzy Gillespie ,Duke Ellington, Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson, Olivia Newton John, Boy George, Michael Jackson and LL Cool J to name a few. His parents owned a record store which gave young Demetri access to many different genres of music. Sad to say the records and tapes were his toys, and he recalls at a young age using one of Elvis’s records as a Frisbee.

Demetri also showed an interest in Greek and Spanish music. Demetri was a member of the Governor George Clinton state public school chorus from first grade to fifth grade he sang many Christmas songs and famous pop songs of the time, he recalls two of his favorites to perform where Dionne Warwick’s That''s What Friends are For and from the movie An American Tale soundtrack Somewhere Out there.

At twelve years old Demetri started to show a keen interest in artist such as Boys to Men and Bel biv Devoe and many Hip Hop and R & B artists of the time. He recalls his favorite songs during this era where Poison and Motown Philly, but to date his favorite Boys to Men song remains It’s so hard to say Goodbye to yesterday. Now at Poughkeepsie Middle School Demetri also sang in the chorus from sixth grade to eighth grade. Demetri also sang in hi school when he attended, but bad influences made chorus seem like it was not cool.

At fourteen, Demetri began to associate himself with bad influencing youth’s, he began cutting class and smoking marijuana chronically. This led to his demise and he had a serious desire to gain the acceptance of street types. Demetri wanted to gain the respect of the wrong element. He sold drugs for a small period and reminisces how crack heads are really diabolical people, the entire experience lasted 3 years. Demetri also had good influencing friends that worked at keeping him away from the bad influences, to them he is thankful. One of the most difficult experiences he recalls was in June of 2006 when he was at a night club, this is his recollection:

“I remember being with a friend of mine in this club we frequented and the DJ called out some people from a different city stating how they were whacked etc. They made comments to the DJ and told him they would take him out after the party, one of my associates coerced me to go get some loaded guns and come back to the club. Luckily when the DJ came outside to see the weapons in the trunk of the car the guys in the MPV drove away. I thank god everyday for the fact that they drove away”.

At age eighteen Demetri moved to Lesvos Greece. Demetri didn’t want to be in Greece he did not want to leave the life he established for himself, the insurmountable amount of street credit he established was measurable. He returned to the United States only months after trying to adapt to a new culture. Demetri then worked at obtaining a General Equivalency Degree at the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz a college he later would attend. He worked hard at cleaning himself up and realized that he missed his family. Demetri then officially left the United States in April 1997 where he moved to Mytilini Greece on the island of Lesvos.

Demetri did not want to be associated with the Street anymore due to fear of a relapse. Demetri states how the most difficult thing in his life was leaving that life behind. One of the ways Demetri closed off himself from that world was to listen to alternative and rock music.

He also recalls seeing an old friend at the train station who invited him to a club where he grew up. Demetri never went to that club, at times he recalls crying himself to sleep at night due to the extreme difficulty. He says how people rarely realize how difficult it is to let go of something like that, it takes strong character (he told himself).
