Details:
Growing up on a steady diet of American singer-songwriter greats, gabriel o’brien spent his childhood split between the Ohio of his birth and the North Carolina of his heart. He absorbed the 60’s and 70’s records (and 8 tracks) of his father’s on the long drive between his two homes, while drawing and falling asleep in the backseat - all the while Bob Dylan, The Travelling Wilburys, Tom Petty, John Lennon, and many others seeped into his subconscious. Later, he discovered jazz and improvisational “jam band” music. Santana. Grateful Dead. Miles Davis. Phish. Pat Metheny. Bill Evans. These were the soundtrack to 20+ years of paintings, drawings, and poems.

In search of a sound his own, he picked up a guitar and started, like all writers do, late at night - piecing it all together. One story at a time. Soon 3 am became his regular writing time, at one point hammering out 12 songs in 14 days, many of which are on this album.

In January of 2007, gabriel started collecting some of these soungs in once-a-week studio sessions with the help of engineer (and fellow local singer/songwriter) Ryan Weaver and a who’s who of “localfamous” talent including Brad Shreve, Jon Edwards, Dan Conwell, Dreadlock Dave McDougald, Matt Dingo, Addy Cary, Joe Porter, and John Gianatto.

These sessions, named for the late hour at which they were written, are now being taken out on the road and presented to audiences, a snapshot of a small point in an ongoing narrative. A collection of stories, grouped by the common thread that they all occur in the hours before the light comes.

Sit back and listen - and see if you find some of your own story in there.
