Details:
''Twas The Night Before-not your grandfather''s Christmas record! Crew/Petteway/Butler set out to make a recording of seasonal classics that would be listenable at any time of the year. The trio format (keyboard, guitar, and percussion) provided the group with a forum to create highly interactive and inventive arrangements that stretch the concept of what one typically thinks of holiday music. The resulting collection of tunes runs the gamut; from swinging performances of "We Three Kings" and "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen" to a funky second-line stylization of "Jingle Bells" to a gospel/blues rendition of "Silent Night" to a droning trance-inducing "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel."

Jim Crew, keyboard, studied music at UNC-Chapel Hill and the University of North Texas, and privately with world renowned pianist Joanne Brackeen. He has performed at major jazz festivals and in clubs nationwide and has composition credits ranging from modern dance to musical theater to film trailers and computer games. Among his awards and honors are a 2002 United Arts Regional Artist Grant, "Best Musician in the Triangle" in the 1996 Spectator Magazine reader''s poll, national finalist in the 1991 Dewar''s Jazz Piano Competition, and a 1989 Raleigh Arts Council Emerging Artist Grant.

Bernie Petteway, guitar, was one of the founding members of the legendary jazz-fusion group 3PM which https://www.tradebit.com''s tribute page calls "one of the most unknown and underrated jazz rock fusion bands to have ever existed". He has recorded and appeared in concert with nationally known artists Pat Benatar, Erich Kunzel (conductor St. Louis Symphony), Neil Sedaka, Bee Gees, Tito Puente, and many others. Bernie is frequently a guest soloist with the NC Symphony and has provided guitar accompaniment for many North Carolina theater companies and national touring theater productions. He has composed music for television programs nationally syndicated by PBS.

Ed Butler, drums, has performed in an assortment of venues across the United States and throughout Europe and Northern Africa in a variety of styles: from Neo-Country with The Nancy Middleton Band to pop with Grammy Award winner Michelle Shocked. Middle Eastern/Arabic influenced jazz with The Thelonius Society and OOTO to the improvisational and Avant-Garde world of Good Neighbors, Anubis Leisure Society and The Micro-East Collective. He also collaborates with the dance company “2 Near The Edge” and Gaelic scholar, singer and dancer Michael Newton on a project called “Night of Renewal.” Another passion of Ed’s is his love of the theater. He was the pit drummer for Theater in the Park’s production of “Purlie”, Raleigh Little Theatre’s production of “Always Patsy Cline”, and is currently the percussionist for Ira David Wood’s production of “A Christmas Carol.” He has appeared in “Kudzu-A Southern Musical” by Pulitzer Prize winner Doug Marlette and The Red Clay Ramblers. He has composed and performed the music for Virginia Poly-Tech’s production of "Electra”, and for four years was the primary composer and performer for Jelly Educational Theatre; a Chapel Hill children’s theatre company; which won the 2000 Indie Award for Excellence. In 2005, with The Red Clay Ramblers and The Carolina Ballet, Ed performed in “A Carolina Jamboree,” choreographed by Lynne Taylor-Corbett.
