Jessica “JR” Jefferies
Biography

As a young girl growing up on the south side of Chicago, Jessica Robbie Jefferies had dreams of becoming a singer/actress/model/dancer. In the beginning, she never really saw them as anything more than just dreams. Faced with the stereotypical realities of being too short to do runway, too inexperienced to pursue acting, and too broke to live life as a dancer, Jessica struggled, but pressed on, while continuing to sing in school choirs, weddings, and talent shows. With a lack of resources and money to independently pursue a music career, Jessica kept her eyes open for opportunities to display her talents. An opportunity soon came when Sean Combs was looking for additional members to complete his girl group now known as Danity Kane. Seeing this as an opportunity to break into the music industry, Jessica and her very supportive parents drove down to Detroit, Michigan, which was the closest city where auditions were being held. Lined up with over 1000 other girls, Jessica waited for her one and only chance at stardom. Unfortunately, that chance came and went when she did not receive a call back.
Undeterred by the rejection, Jessica chose to view it as a learning experience. It helped her to discover that she ultimately wanted to be a solo artist. Challenged by the struggles of being discovered, Jessica pursued a college education graduating magna cum laude from Kentucky State University. With her dream of becoming a singer not yet realized, Jessica believed that obtaining a degree in the field of Business Management would be of valuable use.
Jessica has always shown a strong work ethic on the path to her dream. Once back home, Jessica worked two jobs, one as a Staff Accountant and another as a part-time restaurant hostess in the evening. It is at her part-time job that Brad “Noname” Clark discovered her talent and took interest in helping her pursue a singing career. After a few conversations and meetings with relatives, the development of an artist/manager relationship was birthed. The artist was “JR”, Jessica’s first and middle initials. Jessica chose this name in loving memory of her strong grandmother Robbie Banks, who died of breast cancer when Jessica was fifteen. Her new manager was Brad “Noname” Clark of No Name Necessary Productions and together they set out to make unforgettable music!
JR changes direction from club to mid tempo songs that show her singing and song writing versatility. “J R is new and refreshing - a combination of youth, education, and broad appeal. The first day at the studio we asked her to sing a song that “RaShawn Clark” wrote and she flat out nailed it,” stated Noname. “She had it - personality and the look - combine that with the fact that she can really sing and write with what we do and it’ll be magic…” Inspired by the likes of Anita Baker, Chaka Khan, Sade, Mary J Blige, Brandy, Aaliyah, Lauren Hill and Kelis., “JR” looks to make a name for herself while taking influences from these great rhythm and blues legends, by doing exactly what her first single says, “you got…Work For IT”.
