Details:
Now calling the northern mountains of West Virginia home, Keith and Joan have been partners in both music and marriage for over 30 years. It was from their early beginnings that they committed to performing the music they love: a blend of the old and new where traditional and contemporary styles meet with honest down-to-earth lyrics. It’s this combination, a tasty mix of original with traditional Appalachian or Celtic, that captures the heart and soul of their performances. As much a poet as a lyricist, Keith’s original songs are often based on the themes that have run through their own lives- places they have lived, experiences they have shared, a passion for the landscape and their environment and what it means to care for it. With tight well-blended harmonies accompanied by Keith’s unique picking style on guitar, harmonica and occasional mandolin and Joan’s simple but solid foundation on fretless bass and occasional penny whistle, their music takes you on a spellbinding journey through an emotional landscape celebrating a deep connection with nature. While true to their folk and Americana roots, their music and heartfelt poetic songwriting bring to mind the great folksingers of our times.

About Gathering Stones

In this newly released 3rd recording the acoustic folk duo joined forces with other musicians, including one of their four sons, to demonstrate their strengths as instrumentalists as well as their strong songwriting skills. “The songs have more than a touch of homey- made more so by the folk-Celtic-bluegrass mix of tunes- and enough personal and musical warmth to keep you toasty through a long winter.” The result is an exciting collection of 11 original songs plus the traditional “Fair and Tender Ladies” and Richard Farina’s “The Falcon” done as an acapella performance. The Appalachian mountain geography echoes through songs like “Mountains of Blues” and “Jenny”. From “The Rest of Your Life”, the couple’s reflection on life so far to “Farmers and Fishermen”, a homage to the vanishing breed of independent food producers to “Home Ranger” remembering their children’s innocent games, Keith’s songs explore the area between feeling and believing. People and places, past and present make up the plots of his songs on this ambitious set.
