The Album

One Minute to Midnight is my debut album. I had written each of the songs on the album before the first recording session in October 2006. Little did I realize then that completion of the album would take more than one year! All songs on the album were written spontaneously and in each instance the melody came first and then the lyrics. I guess the songs say a lot about me and how I see the world today, especially the enormous problems posed by climate change. In particular One Minute to Midnight, An Endless Night is Gonna Come and The People Gotta Save the World for the Children deal directly with the awesome possibilities of world climate change.

I was and still am deeply touched by the pain suffered by the ordinary families and children of Iraq. Graphic pictures appearing on world news reports of innocent women and children caught up in the whole thing. Baghdad was written with this in mind. The song is not intended in any way to be political but simply reflect my own reaction to the horror of yet another war.

The other tracks on the album speak about a diverse range of subjects from contemporary life in our big cities and the financial system we are all caught up in (Bright Lights Big City, Broken City and World Lost in Time especially) to the more romantic (Mexico, Thinking About You Thinking About Me). The last track on the album, Only You Can Get You Through, is a little personal philosophy but I think it has universal application.

Finally Mobile Phone Blues (for America perhaps the title should be Cell Phone Blues) and I Never Thought I Could Feel This Way About You, a song reminiscent of the 1920’s, were written as pure pleasure.

Peter McCurdy

As to me, Peter McCurdy, there is probably not a great deal to say. I was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia and somehow found my way to Law School and then professional practice as a Barrister (attorney) at the Victorian Bar for 30 years. Having ceased the practice of the law in 2006 I turned my full attention to a passion which I had denied all my life – rock music.

I have always loved music. Throughout my life I have played the guitar and composed songs from time to time. Listening to my music you may have deduced correctly that the greats of contemporary rock like Bob Dylan, the Beatles and especially John Lennon, the Stones, the Eagles and many others have all impacted upon my musical psyche, particularly that great genius, Bob Dylan. The music of these wonderful people has been throughout a back drop to my life and a great source of happiness and comfort in more difficult times.

I hope that what I have written here is of interest to you. My fondest wish is that you, the public, like, perhaps even love, my music. Thank you for taking the time to read this and listen to my music.
