The Reed Dieffenbach Quartet is a Boston based group specializing in straight ahead and contemporary jazz. The group is comprised of Reed Dieffenbach (drums), Jeff Harrington (saxophones), Steve Hunt (piano) and Mark Poniatowski (acoustic bass).
Reed Dieffenbach (drums) has performed with Howard Johnson, Jerry Bergonzi, John Lockwood, David Hines, Steve Hunt, Dave Bergeron and April Hall, among others. His recordings include Twilight World (with Jerry Bergonzi and John Lockwood) and Hall sings Hines (with April Hall and John Lockwood). Reed is an in demand freelancer and much sought after instructor in the greater Boston area as well as a member of the Harry Fix Quartet and founding member of Jamas Travelin'' Medicine Show.
Jeff Harrington (saxophones) has performed with jazz luminaries Kenwood Denard, Baron Brown, Makoto Ozone, Joe Hunt, Rachael Z, Teddy Kotick, George Schuller, Ricky Ford, Billy Hart, Arnie Lawrence, Kirk Lightsey, Mike Richmond, Milt Hinton, Danny Brubeck, Darius Brubeck, Billy Kilson, Vinny Gollia and Jimmy Guiffre including performances in Europe, the Caribbean, Los Angeles, the southwest US and throughout New England. In addition to One, his recordings include Cosmic Motion Picture (Jeff Harrington Quartet), So Tru by Tudy Sandhaus and Singer/Songwriter by Tony DiNucci, among others. His quartet album, Emanation, is due out in 2008. He’s also author of Blues Improvisation Complete (Berklee Press); Great Tenor Saxophone Solos, Vol. 1 & 2; Great Smooth Jazz, R&B, and Pop Tenor Saxophone Solos; and, Written Solos On Standard Tunes, Vol. 1. Jeff is an Associate Professor at Berklee College of Music, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Affiliated Artist and a Harvard University MLSP Instructor.
Steve Hunt (piano) has performed with jazz and fusion greats Billy Cobham, Stanley Clarke, Angela Bofill, Allan Holdsworth, Freddy Hubbard, Gato Barbaira, Stanley Turentine, Ramsey Lewis, Kenny G, and Phillis Hyman while touring Japan, Israel, Austria, France, England, Italy, Sweden, Argentina, and Australia, the US and Canada. His recordings include Secrets, Wardencliff Tower, and Hard Hat Area with Alan Holdsworth; If This Bass Could Only Talk and East River Drive with Stanley Clarke and his own From Your Heart and Your Soul. Steve is an Assistant Professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.
Mark Poniatowski (acoustic bass) has performed with Floyd Dixon, Junior Watson (Canned Heat), George Carlin Show (Fox Network) and Kid Ramos (The Fabulous T-birds) throughout the US and Europe including the Boston Globe Jazz Festival, Orange County Blues Festival (CA), The River Festival (KS), The Natt Jazz Festival (Norway), and the Konzerthaus (Austria). His recordings include April Hall''s, Something Like That, The Bruce Katz Band’s Mississippi Moan (Audio Quest) and The College Boys Radio Fusion Radio (Virgin Records). He also performs with the Boston based R&B band Soul Kitchen. Mark is an Assistant Professor at Berklee College of Music.
