Gergo Borlai was born in 1978. His mother is one of the leader conductors at the Hungarian Radio and his father is one of the major sound engineers in the country. Gergo started to play on his dad’s hobby drum set at the age of three while he was listening to Joe Morello’s and Harvey Mason’s playing on Dave Brubeck and Herbie Hancock records. Thanks to his father, he’s got into jazz and jazz-rock music fairly early. For admission to Postas Music School in 1984 he played Dave Brubeck’s Take Five.
He is one of the most talented jazz drummers in Hungary. Beyond drums he is a self taught bass and piano player. He has been composing and arranging music since the age of twelve. His first album was released in 1998 named ‘17’.
Gergo was inspired by John McLaughlin, Allan Holdsworth, Weather Report and Frank Zappa’s music. One of his most admired idols is Jaco Pastorius.
