Singer/songwriter Heather Chappell’s vocal and instrumental talents have their roots in a childhood filled with music and song. Harmonies around the campfire, kitchen table, BBQ, and teapot were common growing up - with pianos, guitars and folk songs abundant at family gatherings. Church choirs, high school musical stage productions and vocal jazz ensembles brought Heather before audiences on a regular basis throughout her teens and early twenties, preparing her for a musical shift toward recording studio session work and a firm foot forward in folk music circles in Southern Ontario by the age of 21.
Between 1990 and 1994, Heather toured folk music venues alongside David (now Dawud) Wharnsby. The two enjoyed great success with their unique style - blending traditional folk tunes with original compositions and producing two independent recordings - Off To Reap The Corn and Fine Flowers In The Valley. They parted musical ways in 1995, and Heather moved on to join the folk ensemble The Woolgatherers. Between 1998 and 2004 The Woolgatherers performed at venues throughout Southwestern Ontario, and in Montreal. They were warmly welcomed at the Fiddler’s Green International Music Festival in Rostrevor, Northern Ireland in 1999 and 2001. Their CD, An Evening’s Wages, was released in 2002.
With her diverse musical upbringing and an educational background in English literature, Heather’s self-penned material is lyrically deep, emotional and intimate, often calling to mind the sweetness of a familiar Celtic ballad or the hush of a sacred Sunday hymn. Many of Heather’s songs are lyrical paintings, depicting the human condition in its various stages of struggle, joy and self-reflection.
The Moon a Bullethole is Heather''s debut CD. These songs have waited patiently to be heard. Befriend them. Take them home with you. Let them nestle on your shoulder as you go about your day. Sing them often.
