Origins of “GRACE”….
1-I BELIEVE IN LOVE---I was browsing in a book store listening partially to the music droning to a current popular song that only went back and forth between two chords. They had me for a while, but I hoped it would break into something wonderful set up by that caffeine-free melody and pace. It didn’t happen; I was about to scream. Subconsciously, I start re-writing it and adding that third chord. It was a ‘list’ type of lyric on boring, down stuff. So, I thought of making a happier version of that structural idea.
2-I WANT TO FEEL THAT WAY AGAIN---Long time love is not an overly exploited subject of songs. It’s my favorite song on this album.
3-IT COULD’VE BEEN YOU---I envy and admire folks who can write ‘story songs’. This is yet another attempt to learn how.
4-REMOTE POSSIBILITY---It was the night before my Lasik surgery, and I was thinking about the warnings that there was a ‘remote possibility’ of blindness by the procedure. Well, that doesn’t play well for a subject, but I liked the groove of the title. And if you’re singing the blues…why not about love?
5-DO YOU LOVE ME LIKE I LOVE YOU?---I saw Jimmy Buffet on TV. He’s such a bright spot. His music is completely fun and up. So I put on my ‘Parrothead’ and wrote this with his smiling face in mind. One has so many influences.
6-IN YOUR HANDS---For everyone who has ever been held captive and terrorized for moments or decades, I wish you strength to escape and fight for a better life full of peace.
7-LUSCIOUS LOVE---What better a subject than food and love? Sweet.
8-GOOD MOM---I know so many wonderful women who define and detail the art of a loving commitment to their children. Best investment of their lives.
9-I GOT A THING FOR YOU---I enjoyed the feel of the chords first, then came light, playful lyrics. The fifties vibe is fun!
10-I DON’T LOVE YOU ANYMORE---There comes a time at the end of a relationship…
11-BIG IDEAS---My mom asked me why I hadn’t written a song for my dad yet, and my first response was, “Well, I have.” But they weren’t very good. Really, they were pretty bad. So, I thought of trying to write from a simple angle and tell some of his story.
12-BETTER---Thank God for folks who inspire us to be the best we can be and influence us to strive to be our best.
