June’s Music:
The music fashioned by June’s Crime is a finely sorted combination of: elation, angst, penance, and love. Combined with poignant lyrics and issues that everyone can relate to, June’s Crime seeks to move past the imaginary qualities of sound and become existent in the minds of its listeners. The composer for June’s Crime, David Landon, states “I want the song’s focus to be on issues and emotions rather than a musical style. I understand that my musical background, and the instrumentation of the songs, creates a broad general style, but that definitely is not the focus of my songwriting.”
June’s Recording:
As of now, June’s Crime has released one album called The Cold Year. It is a full length album composed of some of the songs written by Landon within the last year. Landon says, “Songwriting is my passion. It is what I look forward to throughout my day, and furthermore, my life” In addition, “I can’t wait to see where my songwriting takes me, and conversely, where the progression of my life takes my songwriting.” This album, as far as Landon is concerned, is a physical marker of the progress in his songwriting thus far.
The title of the album, The Cold Year, is a reference to the major trials overcome by Landon in 2007. Landon states that “Cold, meaning trials, is generally seen with negative connotations.” However, for Landon, “Cold is an opportunity to overcome, and in doing so, progress. I am always trying to progress, better myself, leave old ways of thought behind, and that is what this album is about; Progress. It is a way for me, and everyone else, to come together in our mutual search for betterment.” The album contains many different sounds and influences; from Pop Rock, to Classical Piano, and Western Symphonies to Middle Eastern Beats, Landon’s eclectic taste in music comes out in his writing.
June’s Judgment:
In every aspect of June’s Crime, Landon expresses creativity. Landon reveals, “I try to never leave anything generic or plain. I want everything about June’s Crime to be an experience. I want [the experience] to create, inspire, depress, assure, recreate. Experiencing these things, whether we like it or not, are what make us feel alive, and that is what I intend to do, breath life, through creativity, into those seeking it.”
