Details:
"With the exceptions of ''It''s Too Late,'' and ''Blue Monk'' Keith has sung these songs in his numerous performances through the years. Knowing the lyrics to these tunes gives him special insight needed to interpret them instrumentally and it really shows in his performances. I love this collection ahd have it on the top of my easy listening rack right next to Keith''s WAIKIKI CD which features his brass playing. I have several favorites that I''ll be playing often on the airwaves. Good luck with your new CD and keep them coming, it''s great music."

It seems that every time I move to a new place I''m inspired to do a music project, and Costa Rica is no exception to that rule. My wife Carol and I moved here in January, 07 and I started this project in April. The Central Valley of CR is beautiful with lush green mountains surrounding the bustling city and suburbs of San Jose, with the type of scenery and year round temperate climate that really gets the creative juices flowing. Fourteen songs are covers and the other, ''Costa Rica Mi Consuelo,'' I wrote especially for this CD. This project is all solo piano style which I have been working on for almost 6 years in Hawaii and contains my favorite longing songs. Longing for love, a place or a dream
On De Lange''s ''Do You Know What it Means'' I played the A sections in stride piano style and the bridges in a swing feel to give them more contrast. A variety of substitute chord changes were utilized and this is one of my personal favorites. I played ''Here''s That Rainy Day'' only one time through, the way I´ve always wanted to perform it had it not been for pleasing the dancers. It´s also the tune I arranged for big band in my senior year of college and it won me the Down Beat Magazine yearly scholarship to Berklee College of Music in 1968. That award winning big band arrangement can be found on my REFLECTIONS CD. This new piano rendition is filled with full sounding alternate chord changes. Carole King''s ''It''s Too Late'' I played on the Yamaha Clavinova model CLP-220 electric piano and used one of the classic elec piano patches for a funkier groove. The medely including ''You Don''t Know Me,'' and Hoagy Charmichael''s ''Georgia on my Mind'' is my humble tribute to the late Ray Charles, who set such high standards for quality and soulfulness and inspired generations of artists, including myself. "Blue Monk" is a Thelonius Monk tune that was written in 4/4 time but I changed it to 3/4 time, offering a fresh approach to this classic blues head. I had so much fun arranging and recording Billy Joel''s "New York State of Mind". It includes a modulation, a swing improvisation, several quotes from the song "New York, New York" and some interesting new chord progressions of my own on the bridges. Arthur Hamilton''s "Cry Me a River" is known as a slow and melancholy blues tune but I did a 180 on this and funked it up in a straight 4/4 feel. "Unchained Melody" was changed from a slow 12/8 feel to a 6/8 meter which resulted in the song going by a little faster than it''s usual treatment. It also has one interesting chord substitution in the A section that I am really fond of. See if you can find it.
The remaining songs have all been given new fresh arrangements and special attention to detail.
My performances here this year included a two week stint as "guest musical director and featured recording artist" for the Dominical Little Theatre in April, and an ongoing by-weekly piano night for my good friends at La Posada El Quijote Hotel in Escazu. I really like to play this CD as background when friends are over for cocktails, but I think it also rewards attentive repeat listening.

Thanks for listening, Keith Scott
